Lauren POV
"Ugh, how long have we been walking?" I whined, as I started dragging my feet along the side of the road.
After doing nothing for God knows how long, walking for several hours was really taking a toll on me. I was tired, out of breath, and I probably sweat enough to rehydrate myself. Disgusting, I know. Y/N on the other hand had more energy than an energizer bunny. She had a bright smile on her face the entire time and was always a few feet ahead of me. We followed a road as best we could, and whenever a car passed by Y/N would try to get them to give us a ride back to Miami.
"Come on, Laur. We're finally out. It's been a few weeks - maybe months - since you've seen the sun. Enjoy it." She slowed her pace a little bit so that we were walking side by side.
"My feet hurt."
"Do you want a piggy back ride?" She asked, I nodded.
She sighed, got in front of me and crouched down a little bit. I hopped on her back and wrapped my legs around her waist while she gripped the back of my thighs for support.

There comes a point when you just give up on walking. My time came a couple of hours ago. Y/N's however came just a few short minutes ago. I sat on the side of the road, while she stood and waited for more cars to pass.
"Ugh! Why is this street so empty?" Y/N complained. She kept her thumb up towards the street.
"I don't know, maybe it's because-"
I was cut off by her getting really excited at a pair of headlights shining in our faces.
"Laur, get up, get up, he's pulling over, he's . . . A cop." Y/N said the last part a little less excitedly. "Man, I hate cops." She mumbled to herself.
The cop car slowed to a stop in front of us. He didn't bother getting out of the car, he just rolled down the passenger side window and gave us a stern look.
"You two ladies know that hitchhiking's illegal, right?" Was the first thing he said to us.
"I know it's just, we don't really know where we are and we've been walking for a while now. We just want to go home." Y/N said in a sad tone.
The cop was kinda pudgy and his hair was thinning. He had a pink box of doughnuts in the passenger seat that he kept taking short glances at. Stereotypical cop.
He eyes us suspiciously. Honestly, I don't blame him. What are two teenage girls doing in the middle of nowhere. He narrowed his eyes at us, "What're your names? You both look familiar."
Y/N and I shared a glance before she spoke, "I'm Y/N Y/L/N and this is Lauren Jauregui."
"Holy shit!" His eyes practically popped out of his head, he was so surprised. "We've been looking for both of you everywhere."
He got out of his squad car and made his way to the passenger side. He then opened the back door for us and told us to get in so he could give us a ride back home. Y/N and I climbed into the car and he sped off.
The cop rambled on and on for most of the ride. He told us how much of a struggle it was trying to find us and how they had to widen their search and blah, blah, blah. Then he contacted the Miami police department, and offered the two o us doughnuts.
Y/N and I sat quietly in the back of his squad car throughout the entire ride. We had ignored his questions about what happened, neither of us wanted to talk about it just yet.
As we sped down the mostly empty road, I couldn't help but start to feel sleepy. I let a yawn slip out of my mouth then laid my head on Y/N's shoulder.
"Get som sleep," she placed a lingering kiss on my forehead and slipped her arm around my waist. "I'll wake you up when we're home."
