~A~
He couldn't help it.
He had to watch her sleep.
Owen had been surprised when she'd fallen asleep in his arms outside by the fire pit. So he managed to carry her inside and put her to bed before he went and put out the fire and secured the house. He'd not had the pleasure until this week of sharing a bed with her. He hadn't planned on it. Had fully expected that she would sleep in a bedroom of her choosing since there were several lovely rooms that he'd thought she'd love.
She'd gone to bed before him the day they arrived as he was spending a few moments making sure they did have everything they needed. And needed to just check in with the boys because, well, habits are hard to break and Owen had been checking in on his boys for almost 7 years now on a daily basis.
Did he feel the need to do so because of habit or because he feared what would happen with Sean in charge?
Oh... maybe a bit of both.
Anyway, he schooled his thoughts back to what he'd been thinking of. Sang had showed up back in the kitchen in her pajamas, looking at him for a long moment until he'd said her name. Which had earned him an outstretched hand and a soft plea for him to please come join her in bed because she couldn't sleep.
He recalled the fact that she rarely did sleep alone and immediately tucked his phone away and went with her. She'd cuddled up to him and somehow, he managed to fall asleep despite his very tense body being extremely aware that she was so near.
He rarely shared his bed with anyone so it was a little disconcerting throughout the week as this became so normal to him. He worried that once they went home, he would be the one seeking her out because he could not sleep alone.
He'd observed her sleep before. But that wasn't anything like how he was watching her now. That was with a slightly clinical detachment before he woke her for a conversation. Tonight... this was a desperate observation. As if it was the last night he'd ever sleep with her in his arms. He was driven by the need to memorize her features, the way her body felt against his as he held her close while she slept. This week had meant the world to him and he was confident that they'd made strides in their relationship.
He brushed a kiss across her temple before she shifted slightly and her eyes opened, looking at him.
"You need to sleep. We have a long drive tomorrow." She murmured, reaching up and touching his face gently.
"I know." He said. "I will, I just..." He shrugged.
"What?"
"I've become accustomed to having you in my arms. It is going to be difficult to sleep without you next week."
Her lips curved up in a sleepy smile. "Well, I'm sure you will figure something out." She said. "You are pretty much in touch with what is going on all the time."
"Perhaps." He nodded slightly before tilting her chin up and kissing her lightly. "Sleep... I know you could certainly nap in the car tomorrow but I also know you won't."
"Very true." She agreed, shifting in my arms slightly before she settled in again, nestled into his side and nuzzling her nose into his chest as she laid her head down. "Good night..." she murmured.
"Good night." He returned, raising a hand and hesitating slightly before running it over the hair at the back of her head and letting it continue down to rub her back as she sighed slightly before relaxing and drifting off to sleep. He made sure that she was asleep before he closed his eyes and joined her in sleep.
