As Bree slowly came to a stop in front of their destination, she made sure to stop a little ways away, considering it was an abandoned minefield. Keeping someone underneath or in a minefield was rather genius Bree couldn't help but think. It was quite dangerous making it the perfect location.
She exhaled deeply and tried her best to watch her step from then on.
Douglas scratched his chin and started pacing. He began to sweat once more and his face was a mixure of determination and worry, both of which Bree felt.
His face lit up and he pulled out his phone, smiling as he pulled up some pictures he took in the lab before Mr. Davenport kicked him out.
"Guys, look." Bree was almost immediately at his side when he said that, and Adam and Leo ran over, eager to see whatever Douglas was showing them.
"Before Donny kicked me out-" Douglas grimanced, "-I did a ton of research on the junkyard and this minefield, just so we'd know what we were doing." He pulled up some blueprints, showing that there was a couple rooms underneath them. "If we play our cards right, we need to activate one of the mines, causing a secret entrance to appear."
Bree immediatly stepped back, realizing how dangerous and risky that was. "Well what if we don't detonate the right one?"
Douglas looked down at his feet. "It'll blow up the ground and it'll collapse into the rooms below, barricading them."
Bree nodded, trying not to yell at Douglas about how they shouldn't risk it and how incredibly difficult it'd be. She just chose to suck it up and keep going.
She surveyed the land ahead of her and sighed. Hopefully they'd be able to activate the right mine, or Chase would die.
"Okay," Bree sighed, running her fingers through her hair. "Um, how do we do this? We could-"
"Bree, you choose." Adam blurted, giving her a weak smile. "I-I think it'd be best if you chose the mine."
Bree's mouth opened and her eyes were as wide as pans. "Uh-uh w-what?"
Adam nodded. "I think you should do the honours. All in favour of Bree doing it, raise your hand."
Leo, Douglas and Adam all raised their hands, leaving the gears in Bree's head to turn. The responsibility, this was life or death! Whatever happened next would be intirely her fault. How would she cope if Chase...
"Um n-n-no." Bree stuttered. "I-I don't think-"
Douglas looked at Bree with the softest and most enthusiastic gaze Bree had ever seen. He placed a hand on her shoulder and smiled. "We all have faith in you. Go ahead." He handed her a remote, which she took hesitantly.
"What's this?"
"There's seven buttons on their." Douglas said. "A long time ago, I wired them so whichever one you pressed, it'd detonate. That's why it's abandoned."
Bree nodded, surveyying each button. They all looked the same, which didn't help Bree at all. She looked back at Leo, Adam and Douglas before closing her eyes.
Chase, I am so so sorry if whatever happens hurts you. I love you.
Bree felt her finger hit one of the buttons amd all four inmediatly ran in another direction, taking cover in case there was an explosion.
Bree could feel her heartbeat in her ears, and her breathing became shaky.
"C'mon." She muttered.
It felt like hours until something happened. Bree hoped that she'd hear something indicating an entrance would come up but sadly...
Her heart dropped as she heard an explosion cut through the air.
