"He's... he's not going to make it." The nurse said, making everyone's faces fall, depression growing in the pit of their stomachs. "I am extremely sorry. You may see him before he..." Her voice trailed off, obviously uneasy about finishing the sentence. She cleared her throat. "Room 13B." Was all she said before she ran off.

Mr. Davenport looked from Douglas and Leo to Adam and Bree, eho were still fast asleep, completely unaware of anything that was happening. He sighed. "We need to tell them."

"What about Bree?" Leo asked. "Do you know how she'll react? She'll blame herself, and she'll never forgive herself."

"She has a right to know!" Mr. Davenport said, louder than he anticipated. "Just... tell them when they wake up. I'm going to see Chase."

He felt a piece of his heart chip as he walked into the elevator, his footsteps echoing on the stone floor. He pressed the button in the elevator and took deep breaths, trying to calm himself.

A loud ding came from the elevator and the doors . He stepped out and scanned the doors until he saw one labeled ROOM 13B PATIENT DAVENPORT, CHASE.

He took a deep breath as he turned the knob, his heart beating faster as he stepped inside and closed it. He turned to Chase and his heart stopped.

Chase was asleep, and had burns littering his arms, legs and face, and multiple cuts all over his body. His face was contorted in one of pain and confusion.

A tear fell down Mr. Davenport's cheek as he gripped Chase's cold and unmoving hand. "You know, the worst feeling ever is a parent loosing their child." He gulped, his voice shaky. "I love you so much Chase, you are the best son I could ever hope for and I never would've asked this to happen, especially not to you." He took a deep breath and gave a weak smile. "I guess that's the price to pay for being a hero." He had tears streaming down his face. "I love you Chase! And I will always carry you in heart!" His voice caught up in his throat and he burst out crying, squeezing Chase's hand as he did. He lifted his head up and wiped his tears. "You're... you Chase are my hero..."

He felt arms engulf him in a hug and he turned to see Adam, Bree and Leo, all with tear-stained cheeks, holding onto him like their lives depended on it.

"M-Mr. Davenport, th-that was beautiful." Bree said, breaking apart the hug and looking Mr. Davenport straight in the eyes. "Will he really...?"

"I'm sorry." Mr. Davenport said, hugging her as she cried into his chest, as he wrapped his arms around her, tearing up again himself.

They all stood up straight and stared at Chase, hoping, praying he'd wake up and tell then everyone was okay, that he was okay. He just stayed asleep, his face still looking pained and confused.

"Ch-Chase." Adam spoke up, his voice rough and scratchy. He approached his brother with a hurt face, but looked at his family. "I'm the worst brother ever. All I ever did was punch him and make fun of him. I never even got to tell that I love him..." He finished his sentence and his eyes widened with what he said. He said the exact thing when Chase almost died the first time, except this time it was real.

Adam's face filled with shock and sorrow as he bolted out of the room, upset. Leo patted Mr. Davenport on the shoulder and followed Adam out, sprinting.

Bree sat down on the hospital bed beside Chase and took both his hands, her tears wetting the blanket over top of him. "This is all my fault. If I never yelled at you you wouldn't have left and got kidnapped. I am so sorry." She was bawling. "I can't imagine living without your stupid jokes, or your obnoxious tech remarks. Now, I will take all of that, if it means you will be safe at home." She choked up and ran into Mr. Davenport's arms, who held them out for her.

The room was silent, but it soon overcame with a loud and long beep. When Mr. Davenport looked up, he saw the one thing he never wanted to see.

Chase flatlined.
