The next day was Wednesday, the day before the funeral and the first day everyone had to deal with Chase's death. All of it seemed like a nightmare yet nobody was waking up from one.
Bree and Adam got up and their first instinct was to say "Good morning Chase!" But as soon as they almost said it, it just brought back the painful memories of the previous day, which caused them both to sob.
Mr. Davenport cancelled classes for the week and even though everyone was still mourning Chase's death, they were all quite relieved that they didn't have any homework to do.
Bree and Adam had their showers and got dressed to go out for breakfast, feeling sadness and tension in the air. All the students were whispering, sulking or full out bawling. It was like it was already the funeral.
Bree dismissed the food and got herself a glass of water, sitting down at one of the tables with Adam, Leo and Douglas, who looked awful. His hair wasn't brushed and all he was wearing was a gray t shirt, sweatpants a blue robe overtop and his pink bunny slippers.
As he sat down, Leo covered his nose. "Awe, dude? I have a suggestion: shower."
"Hey, cut him some slack." Bree interjected, taking a sip of her water. "This's been hard on Douglas. Let him be."
"Yeah, we're all upset but you down see me skipping my shower days." Leo retorted, scooting his chair away from Douglas, who looked lost in his own world, not paying attention to Bree and Leo.
"Let him be." Bree said, sighing.
"Get him a shower!!"
"Just leave him alone! Look at him. He's clearly depressed! You don't even look that sad about any of this." Bree said, raising an eyebrow.
Leo felt offended, and shocked. "Hey, I'm as much of a brother to him as Adam!"
"Step." Bree muttered.
"Excuse me?" Leo asked, standing up.
"Step-brother." Bree said, standing up. "We're related to him, you are just our step-brother STEP-brother." As soon as she heard herself say it, Bree immediately regret it. "Leo, I'm-"
"Don't bother." He snapped, storming off.
That made Bree angry so she threw her drink on the ground and stormed away to the roof, a place for her to think.
She sat herself ontop of the roof and looked up at the sky, placed midway in the sky. There were no clouds anywhere to be seen and the sun cast pink and orange glows on the water, the rippling making it like a scene from a movie.
Bree stared at the ocean and sighed, running a hand througg her hair. She regretted what she said to Leo but after everything that's happened, she certainly did not need apologizing on her to-do list.
The widow opened behind her and Bree heard a tap on the window, seeing Adam standing there, a weak smile on his face. "Hey."
"Hey." Bree replied, turning back to look at the ocean.
Adam cleares his throat. "Can I join you?"
She nodded and Adam hopped out onto the roof, taking a seat beside Bree. He stared at the ocean and his breath caught in his throat. It was truly beautiful out there.
"Wow." Was all he managed, earning a chuckle from Bree. "This-this place is gorgeous."
Bree nodded, a frown appearing on her face as she stared out, the words lost in her head. She realyy just wanted to cry on Adam until tomorrow, but she couldn't seem to do anything.
Adam held Bree's hand and smiled, gesturing her for a hug. She smiled and hugged him, tears streaming down her face as she squeezed him gently. "I'm sorry." She whispered.
We're falling apart without you, Chase.
