After six months, give or take, I was finally allowed to leave the hospital. I could walk and talk and function finally. I hugged my babies every day, Nina and Damien. They were so cheeky and tried to tell me where we were going when we passed my parents street and kept on going. Sadly daddy had to tell them both off for nearly ruining my surprise. I tried to make them tell me but daddy told me off too.
“Stop fraternising with the enemy.”
“Our kids aren’t the enemy!” I laughed as the kids said the same, shouting at you. Damien leant forward on his booster chair; “daddy is the enemy!” they both shouted and started to make attack plans. It was the cutest thing I’d ever seen in my life. Without realising the car had pulled into a driveway. A large gravel driveway. I stared up at the house.
“Did your mum move? This place… amazing.” You grinned at me.
“NO mummy! This is our house! This is where we all live!” Nina shouted. Her front tooth was missing, she smiled a huge grin. I opened the door and stepped out of the car, holding Nina in my arms as you held Damien. I saw the swinging chair and turned to you, my eyes wide.
“You didn’t?” it was mine… my dream, the one we talked about…
“I did.” I kissed you, passionately; we stood on the porch watching the sun go down, I was home. With my family and a wedding ring on my finger. Life was bliss, and I would never ask for anything more.
