"I know she doesn't like school Avery but, she could try a little harder aim for straight a's I want her to be happy!" Raina heared the whispers through the wall. She clutched to her pillow trying to ignore the threats and yells.
"Do you know how hard it is to get into a university these days? Or even a tech school?" Thomas persisted the subject.
"Honey, I think you need to relax she's gone through a traumatic experience." Avery tries to soothe Thomas' anger.
"Well I can't handle this she's your responsibility!" Thomas screams, Raina winces as a door slams. She mentally prepared herself so when Thomas comes in she can be ready for his loud lecture.
"Raina?" She hears Caden call from the other side of the door.
"Give me a minute." She gets up to unlock the door for the smaller boy.
"I heared everything and I know you did too." He staggers toward her bed groggily and plops down.
"It's okay hon' I'm okay." She chuckles and crawls in next to him.
"But I'm not. I don't like the way he talks about you and he can't just give up." He whispers and puts his hands on his face.
"Yeah he can sweetie." Raina sighs. She didn't want to talk about this with him.
"No, not when my mom wants to adopt you." He whispers falling asleep.
"Wait what?" She jumps up.
"Yeah, she wants to adopt you." He groggily replies.
"Go to sleep honey, your speaking nonsense." She sighs deciding he's to tired that he thinking out loud of what he wanted.
"Okay but, please don't tell anyone I told you." He drifts asleep, as she lay there trying to comprehend.

Raina woke up to a screaming boy.
"Caden babe what's wrong?" She rolled over to the little boy who was sitting up straight.
"I-I- you-you you are my bestfriend and I want you to stay here forever." He whispered. Raina's brow furrowed at her brothers words.
"Was it about me again?" She sat up and hugged the little boy.
"Yeah. I dreamt that those people- that they- they took you away from us." He sobbed. He was so young he didn't understand that they weren't going to just take her away. They needed a reason to.
"Oh sweetie. Honey they aren't gunna take me away." She whispers into his hair. He smelled of salt. She cringed internally at the smell.
"Caden I'm not going anywhere I promise." Raina lifted his chin to meet her eyes. She smiled down at him, wishing she could reassure him more.
"It's four in the morning you still need to sleep. You have four more hours before school starts, I don't want you to make trouble for mum okay?" He nodded slipping back under the covers with her.
She played with his hair till she heard soft snores escape his little frame.
Then came the whispers.
'No one loves you Raina.'
'No one cares'
'Your mother is in the hospital because of you.'
The whispers were all in her head.
She hated the whispers. She was afraid of them.
'Stop being a pansy raina' she thought to her self as she lay there awake. She repeated the mantra in her head till the whispers were gone and she could fall asleep.
