"Raina?" Avery got out of the car. Raina was to busy in her Twitter to notice her. She was staring at people blowing it up about how she talked to the Calum Hood. Who was he?
"Yeah, coming sorry." She jumped into the front seat of the pick up truck. Mom loved her chevy's. Raina thought about how strange that sounded.
"No one else is here how long have you been out here?" Avery looked at the full parking lot. Then the bell rang signaling the end of the day. She was shocked when there was more than one kid coming from the building. Avery glanced at Raina watching as the poor 17 year old shrunk back down into her seat.
"It was only 5 minutes-" Raina started but soon was interrupted.
"We'll" go pick up Caden please just stay quiet." Avery looked pained back at the road knowing this would earn a call from cps.
The car ride to the elementary school was agonizing quiet. Not a word spoken, the pur of the engine the only noise being made. Raina looked out he window at the small kids walking up to their parents all proud of art work. She remembered the time she did hat to her father and he slapped her. He threatened to tear it apart. She never knew why he did it. Just remembers the stings of pain.
Raina thought back to her mother. Her father took her to see her mom that day when she was still able to talk. How she would show her mom her paintings and art projects and her mom would praise her. Her dad would smile and pretend he didn't detest bringing Raina to see her. She knew now that was all she wanted to do.
Tears slipped down Raina's tanned skin. She frowned at the parents and their children and let the silent make-up stained tears stroll down her face.
"Raina! Why are you crying?!" Caden jumped in the car. She quickly swiped the tears away sniffing a little in the process.
"Nothing baby." She smiled as if it never happened. She would never include him in on the pain she felt daily.
" Raina we'll talk later." Avery sped away from the curb. Raina's foster mom looked worried and furious at the same time. Raina just watched as Avery never lashed out at her. She was impressed but, ready for a beating. Avery never touched Raina but, Raina was ready to be always hoping that maybe they were just like all the rest of her foster families.
"Raina! Did you talk to Calum?!" Caden yelled from the back of the pick up. She blanched and looked back at Caden who was just as shocked as her but, for a different reason.
" yeah how did you know?" She frowned as Avery eyes turned to a curious light.
"Oh my god do you know who that is?! You know he's famous?! Do you know who he is?!" Caden started to freak out. Obviously Raina had never heard of this band and was trying very hard not to freak out and tell the poor boy to shut the f**k up.
"No? Am I supposed to know who he is?" Raina's sarcasm only added to his frustration.
"Raina! Come on! How do you not know?! All the girls at my school rave about him? Plus I'm sorta into their music." Caden trailed off playing with them hem of his shirt. The 17 year old girl just stared blankly ahead no longer caring for the subject.
"Caden, honey, I don't think Raina cares all that much for them. She is into different kind of music than what's hip." Avery tried to intervene seeing the scene of the children she cared for most irritated with each other.
----
"Raina Genin Dame!" Avery called her by her full name. She was no doubt infuriated by her act today.
"Coming." She huffed opening her door.
"Do you realize that I will have to be on the phone with cps? All because Raina can't handle being in school?" Avery's face has started to turn a shade of pink do to the anger she had felt.
"I'm sorry okay!?" Raina yelled back, "The people in this town make me so sick! I was in an accident and they don't understand who I am!" Raina felt tears prick her eyes.
"That doesn't give you any excuse Raina! I want you to be happy, really I do! But when you do stupid things like this! There are consequences!" Avery called after a running Raina.
When she reached her room all Raina could think was, I could leave go and see mum. Raina grabbed her bags off the floor and tossed a clean pair of clothes to take with her. She looked at the window. She had to get down stairs, she couldn't just jump out the window.
Avery was spewing anger. She had stomped into the kitchen. Thomas stood there looking at her like she was mad.
"Honey, calm down what's wrong?" Thomas came to her side looking concerned.
"Sometimes that girl gets me so irratated!" She huffed and stormed to the fridge slamming it open and shut. She placed all the food that she had collected on the island.
"I told you it was a bad idea to adopt her." Avery swung around.
"How dare you! I love that girl then you could possibly understand!" She jabbed a finger at his chest. "Just because, you don't understand something doesn't make it worse okay for you to judge her!"
Thomas was taken back by this sudden outburst. The way Avery had defended a girl, who was almost an adult made him furious.
"Avery! She's not a kid! She is going to be out in the world as soon as she's 18! There is no point!" Thomas bellowed down at her.
"Leave." Is all she could reply. She didn't want to hurt him like he hurt her. He sputtered but, said nothing. How could he when he knew she would just ignore him.
Raina sprinted down the street to the nearest bus stop she knew all their routes. All their time schedules, she had to incase she needed to leave. Like she did now.
"Hey." She jumped out of her skin. She didn't know someone was sitting on the bench when she sat down. She was to wrapped up on getting to the hospital.
"Raina, right?" A male said to her in the dark
"Who's there?" She straightened her shoulders.
"It's the boy you told off earlier today, Calum?" Calum answered her and scooted into the light. He had a lot ciggerette in his hand. Taking a puff from it before turning back to her.
"Why are you here?" Raina scooted away from him. She hated the smell of smoke. Ever since her father-. No she wouldn't think like that not here. Not now.
"This is my place. No one comes the this bus stop, I smoke here." He inhaled more toxins.
"Oh, I'll leave you alone once the bus gets here." She looked away, his face scrunched up as he took another puff. She looked at him curiously. He didn't seem to like the ciggerette like it had a bad taste.
"If you don't like it why are you smoking?" She took the bud out of his hand and looked at it. She handed it back when she remembered the burn against her skin. Right where the lotus flower reached her shoulder blade. She winced at the memory.
"Because. Are you okay?" He stomped out the bud and put it in his back pocket.
"I'm fine." She whispered.
"Where are you going anyway?" He stared blankly ahead waiting for her answer. She was beautiful he had to admitt. Her skin was pure honey, and the tattoo on her right arm allures him. Her long brown hair with sun bleached tips were beautiful.
"I was going to see someone." She interrupted his thoughts, bringing him back into reality.
"Oh." Was all he could say, she looked away from Calum. She felt awkward sitting next to him. The way he looked at her seemed to creepy. But she felt something different about him. Like there was a trust or respect.
She felt something towards him and for once she didn't regret it.
