How can I start?

As an opening phrase, I'd like to day this: when I woke up that day, almost certain death was not what I was expecting.
Then again, I should be used to it. I'm a demigod, after all.

I'll start from the bottom: we were all in Camp Half-Blood, all three hundred and eighty-nine of us demigods, all doing our basic daily (and usually deadly) activities: Climbing the lava mountain and risking death by burning, battling in the arena and risking death by impalement, or learning about Greek mythology and risking death by brain overload. Especially if the teacher's Annabeth.

- Ow! Did you really have to do that?

Anyways.

Luckily, I didn't have to participate in any of these, as I was now not only a camper but also a teacher, which to me is great, since teachers get more breaks than any other person in Camp Half-Blood (except maybe Mr. D, whose life literally is an entire coffee break. Don't tell him I said that).

So we were all beside the canoe lake, the not-so-glorious Seven, Frank practicing his bow and arrow shooting and accidentally impaling cute little piglets and promptly apologizing, then rushing to the infirmary to tend to their wounds (this guy... such a mess), Hazel randomly growing riches from the ground, Jason flying overhead next to some very confused birds, Piper charmspeaking a cow into making her milk (which was a very odd sight) Leo trying to turn the lake into lava (which fortunately didn't work), Annabeth trying to give me a lecture about Einstein's physics, and me very intelligently not listening, daydreaming about... you guessed it... blue cookies.

Our little party abruptly came to a stop when something caught my attention - something shimmering, at the bottom of the lake.

I stood up and walked over to the edge. "Annabeth!" I called out. "Come check this out!" I heard Annabeth walking over towards me, grunting.
"Nice dodge. You haven't escaped E=MC² quite yet, Seaweed Brain."

She noticed the glinting thing and frowned; instantly I could sense the gears turning in her brain. The others noticed us looking at the thing- Jason flew down, leaving the birds, Leo extinguished his fire, Piper came over, her tamed cow following, Hazel made her crystals go back into the earth, and Frank stopped bothering the poor pigs. Together, we all tried to work out what the thing was.

"Maybe it's a big diamond," Hazel suggested.

"Nah, a diamond can't be that big." Leo replied.

"You never know in Camp Half-Blood." Piper cut in.

"No, I'm telling you it's not a diamond! It's fire!" Leo insisted.

"Really, Leo? Fire burning in water? A likely story." Jason retorted.

"Hmm... I think it might be a monster. You wouldn't want to go in there." Annabeth said.

Frank pouted. "If there was a monster in this lake, the campers would have noticed it a long time ago. No, it's something recent."

I got tired of them arguing, so I said;

"Well, we won't know what it is until we go and check."

And I jumped into the lake.

Looking back onto that, I admit it was a stupid thing to do, but at the time I was really annoyed that the Seven, the intelligent, brave heroes of the prophecy, were arguing like old grandmas - so I decided to go and see for myself.

Luckily, it wasn't a monster, otherwise I would have been in serious trouble. Unfortunately, seen from closer, it was no clearer than when we looked at it from above the lake. I really wanted to find out what it was, though - and that treacherous, backstabbing curiosity led me to my first big mistake in this story.

I tried touching it.

Very bad idea.

Because as soon as I sensed the shimmering, bizzare light under my fingers, I disappeared. Blinked out and gone, like a whisper on the wind.

Too late, I realized the light was a portal.

To where? Who knows....
