Angela's POV
My birthday was in two days. I was beyond excited. I was going to be fifteen! I could start wearing make-up, go on group dates, my life was about to get better. Truthfully, I wasn't going to wear make-up, and I didn't know anyone to go on group dates with, so it wasn't going to be such a big deal as I had hoped.
I had a small party, just me and my brothers, the Aldean family, Betty, and Josh. We still had a great time. We rode bikes on the dirt road, the boys showed off and competed against each other, and the adults chatted. Betty and I were whispering about what we would now do, since she turned fifteen a few months ago. We agreed the first thing we'd do was go into town and watch a movie by ourselves, and maybe meet some guys.
"Oh, Betty! Really? Won't our parents mind?" I cautiously asked.
"Well, I'm not sure. I don't think so. It's not like we'll do anything! I mean, with our luck we won't even meet anyone." She replied, completely relaxed about the idea.
"Eh, maybe." I said.
Jason rode his bike over by us and skidded to a stop, causing dust to fly up around us.
"Hey girls," He smiled, innocently flirting.
"Hey Jas," I smiled back at him.
"What's up?" He asked.
"Just talking to Betty about what we're gonna do now that we're fifteen."
"Oh, yeah, right," He looked down at the ground, "I can't believe you're fifteen."
"Betty! Come here!" Betty's parents called her from the barn.
"See ya guys. I'll be right back." She looked back at us as she started walking towards her parents.
Jason's POV
As I watched Betty walk up the hill towards her parents I asked her, "So, what are you gonna do now that you're fifteen?"
"Oh, I don't know." Angela answered, "Betty wants to go find some boys, but I'm not sure there are any here in Rockyville." She laughed.
Yeah? Well you're looking at one right now who would love to call you his. I thought to myself. What am I thinking? You're gonna like me? A lame little twelve year old? Yeah, I doubt it. What am I even thinking?! I'm only twelve. I'm not even allowed to date. I'd get a whipping if dad knew I felt this way about a girl. I looked away and blinked hard trying not to think about Angela. I guess she saw me awkwardly blinking.
"Hey, Jason, are you ok?" Angela inquired as she looked at me.
"What?" I asked, extremely embarrassed, "Oh, yeah. I'm completely ok."
I tried to smile as I rode back to Josh, Max, and Seth. Tom and Jimmy must've gone up to the barn.
"Hey guys! come on! They're cutting the cake!" Angela yelled to us as she ran up.
Seth took off running after her while Max stayed by me.
"So, did you tell her?" Max elbowed me teasingly.
"Tell who what?" I 'dumbly' asked.
"You know what I mean." He elbowed me again. "Did you tell her about the guitar song?"
"No," I looked at the ground and kicked the dust, "I never finished it. Besides, she doesn't like me. And I can't even sing. So it doesn't matter."
I saw Josh walking up to us out of the corner of my eye. As he was nearing us I took off after Seth.
Max's POV
"What's going on with him?" Josh asked me.
"Oh, just love." I laughed.
"Ah, with whom?"
"Angela. He was learning to play guitar so he could write and sing her a song on her birthday. I guess he didn't finish it in time."
"Oh." Josh frowned, "That's too bad. I'm sure she would have liked it."
"Yeah. I actually think she would have too. But he doesn't."
"Why?"
"Because she's now fifteen and he's only twelve. And he thinks he can't sing, but he actually can. He's got a really cool voice."
"Really?" Josh turned and looked at me in surprise, "That's awesome. He should still perform it for her."
"Yeah. He should."
I admired Josh because he always looked out for all of us. We all admired him. He always had our backs, he stuck up for us, and he was always there. He was a pretty cool guy.
