The next day we all met up by the Rock Creek, or Minnow Lane as we called it. It ran through my back yard, and it barely cut into the Aldean's property. Every Saturday we'd meet up there and try to catch minnows for fun. Jimmy would always try to fish for something big, but he never had luck because you had to go down stream for the big fish. Momma would never let us go down that way because there were strange people there. They all smoked and drank way too much and were always yelling at each other so we didn't ever want to go by them.

We heard a rustle behind some bushes so Max and I checked it out. We carefully hopped across some large stones we planted some time ago while the creek was dry. Max beat me across and sneaked up behind a big tree to see what was making the noise. I tip-toed behind him, but we didn't see anything. We walked a couple more yards back, but we still couldn't see anything.

"Hey, Angela," Max whispered, "Did you know Jason plays guitar?"

"What?" I asked, "No, I didn't."

"Oh," Max grinned slightly.

"What?"

"Hm, oh nothing." He acted as though he hadn't said anything.

Jason's POV

Max and Angela left for the wilderness. We all heard some noise back there so they were checking it out. I couldn't believe Max didn't let me go. A few minutes after they'd left I thought I heard someone or something out there say my name. It sounded like Max. Why would Max be talking about me? He better not be telling Angela my secret. I want to surprise her on her birthday by playing a song for her.

Recently I started playing guitar. I'd pick up a few things here and there on my own, but once in a while I went into town and got some lessons. I was working on writing a song for Angela. My teacher said that it would be a little while until I had enough practice with the chords to play something, and then it'd be even harder to keep time. I knew I could do it. I had to. Max was the only one who knew my real intentions for learning to play. He said I wouldn't impress her, that she'd think I was some lame little kid.

Angela's POV

Max and I couldn't find anything so we wondered back to the creek. I went over by Jimmy, who was sitting on a big log with his fishing rod in the shallow creek.

"How's the biting?" I asked as I sat by him.

"Um," He frowned, "Not too good. I wish my momma would let us go down stream and fish sometime."

"Yeah, me too. Hey, maybe one day my daddy can take us out there."

"Really?" Jimmy's face brightened as he looked at me, "Would he?"

I nodded as I looked over to see Jason and Max talking.

Jason's POV

"Max," Jason quietly whispered, "You didn't tell Angela that I was learning guitar, did you?"

"Uh, well, not exactly," Max stuttered, "I just asked if she knew you were learning. I didn't say you actually were learning."

"Yeah well she's not stupid. She now knows I'm learning." Jason fiercely walked off.
