Jason's POV

It had been three weeks since I'd seen Josh. I tried to avoid him every chance I got. But one day I couldn't handle it any longer.

I saw Josh and Max outside hanging out so I walked up to them.

"Josh," I said while motioning for Max to leave, "We need to talk."

Josh obviously knew what about. He seemed to feel guilty, but I couldn't tell. Thankfully Max was being mature and left us to talk.

"Yeah, um, Jason," Josh muttered, "I'm sorry." He looked into my eyes like he meant it.

"What? How? Why?"

"I'm sorry I kissed Angela."

The words kept ringing through my head.

He continued, "I didn't know you were there. I-I know you like her, but so do I. And we're closer in age than you guys are."

"Why does age matter so much?" I yelled, holding back the tears. I couldn't cry, and I didn't want to cause a scene, but still I liked Angela so much.

"It just does." Josh looked at the ground, then over at Angela's house.

Apparently she heard me yell because she came outside. She looked beautiful. Maybe she was trying to, or maybe I just thought so because I felt like I just lost her to Josh.

I glared up at Josh "Yeah, yeah, sure it does."

He was staring over at Angela as well which must've meant she did look amazing.

Angela's POV

I heard Jason yell. "Why does age matter so much?" He must have been very upset because he controlled his anger well most of the time. I looked out the window to see him talking to Josh. Josh was leaning up against a old tractor wheel, and Jason was kicking the dirt.

I walked outside to go by them and they immediately saw me.

It had been about two weeks since I'd seen Josh. It wasn't on purpose, I just didn't know what to say to him.  I did see him a few days after Betty and I went to the movies, but that was all.

"Hey boys," I walked up to them, "How's everybody doing?"

I looked at Josh and he smiled at me, "We're ok. Jason and I were just talking."

Jason turned to the side so I couldn't see him.

"Oh, well what about?" I inquired.

"You!" Jason quickly turned and faced me, "I like you so much, Angela! I practically love you."

I was shocked, I had no clue.

Jason went on, "I was learning guitar to play you a song! And I finally wrote my own song for you. I was walking over to tell you but I saw you kissing Josh. Why didn't you tell me you liked him?"

I was still shocked. No boy had ever done anything for me. "Jason, wow, that's amazing. No boy has ever done anything like that for me. I-I would've told you, honest, but I didn't even know I liked Josh. I mean, I never thought about it, until Betty asked me."

"Sure." Jason stomped off.

I was left alone with Josh. It was the first time we were alone since our kiss. He gently grabbed my shoulder and turned around to walk back to my house.

As we walked back I looked around to see Jason watching us. I quickly pulled away from Josh.

"What's wrong?" He asked me.

"I don't know. I just feel bad about Jason. I had no clue he liked me. I didn't think anyone ever liked me." I quietly laughed at my last comment.

"Well I do." He smiled at me.

He didn't seem to be flirting with me right now, even though his comment sounded like it. He seemed to feel bad about Jason too. He must've seen Jason that day, and that's why he pulled back so quickly from the kiss.

"I still can't believe it." I laughed.

"What?" Josh squeezed his eyebrows together.

"Oh, nothing."

"Uh huh. Well, I think I know. And I can't believe it either." He smiled at me.

Oh how badly I wanted to be in a relationship with him. I felt even worse now about it knowing how Jason feels. I finally decided that yes, I actually did like him. For who he was, and not just because he likes me back and kissed me.

We walked up the porch stairs and sat down on the swing hanging from the ceiling.

Josh's POV

Angela and I were sitting on her porch swing. I felt so close to her, I felt like her older brother, but I didn't want to be that.

I made a risky move. I put my hand on her knee, palm up, so she would take it. I had a feeling she wouldn't take it, but I had to try.

To my surprise she slowly put her hand on top of mine. I slid my hand up, so it was resting on her thigh. I wasn't trying to seem awkward, it just hurt to stretch to her knee. I turned my head to look at her and smiled. She turned and smiled back at me. Our faces were so close, but I wasn't going to go in for anything. Not now.
