Chapter 13 - Josh

Angela's POV

Luke was two and a half weeks old now and it was his first visit going to Grandma's. Jason pulled up in my momma's driveway and I got out and unbuckled Luke.

"Come here, big boy!" I carefully lifted Luke out of his car seat.

"What? Alright, babe, here I am." Jason came by me immediately. He winked teasingly.

"Oh, Jason, you know I mean Luke."

He laughed, "Ah yeah, I keep forgetting you have two men in your life now." He frowned slightly then smiled.

As I was walking up the porch stairs I heard Betty come running up to me, "Angela! Wait! I need to see! Wait!" She practically screamed.

I noticed a guy was following her, I couldn't make out who, just a tall, muscular man. I figured it had to be a new boyfriend.

"Oh, Betty! Yes, come here, quick!" I went to sit down on the porch swing.

"I'll go tell your folks we're here." Jason said as he walked into the house.

"Who's this fella you got here? A new little boyfriend?" I teased Betty.

He was wearing a cowboy hat that was shadowing his face, plus he kept looking down so I couldn't see anything of his face.

"Um, no, Angela. It's not." As she said it he looked up.

It was Josh.

"Oh, wow, um, hello, Josh. Long time no talk." I said as I sat on the porch swing.

"Yeah. It has been."

Betty stepped back awkwardly. I gave Betty a look that said 'do not leave, or else'. She understood.

"Well, how have you guys been?" I almost forgot I was holding Luke.

"Great, and you?" Betty came back into the conversation.

"Great!" I smiled and looked at my baby, "Here, Betty, meet little Luke." I slid over so Betty could sit next to me and admire him.

"Aw! Angela, he's so cute. His little face. He looks just like you and Jason!"

Upon hearing those last three words Josh looked me straight in the eyes. I wasn't quite sure what to do, but he did.

"Ca-can I see him?" He asked.

I nodded and let him see Luke, "Isn't he cute?"

"Yeah," he nodded, "He is. I can't believe you have a son now. He does look like Jason."

I felt a little awkward around Josh, but he wasn't being weird or anything so I felt ok. He softly touched Luke's forehead and then bent down and talked sweetly to him, "Hey, little buddy. You're so cute. I know you're gonna grow up and become a big guy. You're lucky to have Angela as your mommy."

Luke spoke back in baby language and lifted his fat little arm and touched Josh's nose.

Betty smiled at me as if she were grateful Josh was behaving himself. We had talked a few times since I broke up with him and she told me he had totally turned his life around, but not for the good. He was still partying all the time, hanging out with lots of girls, and drinking a lot.

"Hey, I'm gonna go inside and get something to drink. I'll be back in a few minutes, k?" Betty stood up and walked inside, "Bye bye baby Lukey!" She waved to him as he was falling back asleep.

"So, uh, how've you been?" Josh asked as he sat next to me.

"Good. Really good, how about yourself?" I cradled Luke closer to me and loved on him.
