Food for thought

Things started to get weird after I woke up from the accident with the knife. Yui was avoiding me more than she ever had before. Reiji didn't make his off handed remarks about proper etiquette either. Even Ayato had stopped glaring when ever he saw me. It was weird to actually get along with the people in the Manor House, even though Subaru still wasn't too fond of me. Shu and Kanato were still rather indifferent to my existence though. But I expected nothing less from them. They never really took much interest in the things I did anyways.

School was still boring but there wasn't much that could be done about that. One thing that really stuck out to me though was that someone kept coming to the manor before leaving not long after. I didn't know who it was but when I asked Kanato he just frowned and told me that it was no-one important and left it at that. It wasn't until a few week later that things truly started to change. Yui had been acting differently.

Wherever she went she would catch a glimpse of the girl who had taken to ignoring her and avoiding her. It scared her slightly. The girl had never referred to her as anything but a demon - those efforts only redoubled after the tango with the grim reaper. After all, who but a demon could survive a knife to the heart, especially a knife that could kill vampires.

Laito treated me the same as he always had. He would smile and make jokes, like he had done since I had arrived at the manor.

"Everything alright Kitten?" Laito asked from behind me. I glanced at him and then back at the window I had been idling by.

"Just thinking about how odd everyone seems too be acting. Not you, but the others. Have you noticed it?"

Laito tilted his head and tipped his hat as he watched her. He had noticed his brothers odd reactions after she had bled out in front of his bed room door. That had been one of the hardest things to get through. He had wanted to taste her blood that day, he wanted to drain her dry, but he was too shocked to try. He had never seen someone's skin knit back together the way hers had that night. It was gruesomely enchanting to watch.

"They are probably just shocked," He told her. "After all, it isn't every day that you see someone be stabbed in the heart, bleed out and then heal like it was nothing but a paper cut." She hummed in thought at his explanation.

"Maybe," she muttered to her self as she looked out the window as the sun broke over the horizon. She couldn't remember the last time she stayed up to watch the sunrise. It seemed prettier than it did before. More vibrant, more alive. The sky turned red as the sun rose higher and higher before it had finally passed the horizon and was fully visible. "It's going to rain," She mused absently.

"How do you know?" Laito asked. He watched her smile to herself as she took one last look at the sky until she looked back at him.

"Its a rhyme I heard once. Red sky at night shepherds delight, red sky in the morning sailors take warning. If its red at dusk then it should be a clear night, and if its a red sky in the morning it should rain. It's an old wives tale, but it is nice to think that it could be that simple." Laito watched how her eyes lit up at the thought of something like that actually being accurate.

Rosalie was one of the few people in the Sakamaki house hold who ever smiled at him. She rarely smirked at anyone, except Yui but half of the time she had started it, but she smiled most at him. But as she pointed out the others weren't that fond of her to begin with.

"Well, if the suns up then I suppose it would be time for us to go to bed," He stated, before realising how dirty that sounded when her lips twitched upwards, holding back a laugh. "Well, well, looks like someone isn't as innocent as she seems to be," he smirked as Rosalie looked back to the window and tried even harder not to laugh at the unintentional innuendo. she shrieked with laughter when he picked her up and spun around, before placing her back down with a smirk.

"Laito, don't do that," she managed to say between laughs. She calmed down enough to stop laughing, but she couldn't help but continue to smile as she watched him show off.

"And why not Kitten? Don't you like me?" he breathed out, moving his hands to rest on her hips, before pulling her closer to him. It took a moment for her to realise the position she found herself in.

"Um, Laito, you're a little too close for comfort there," she squeaked. Laito only smirked at her and hummed in thought.

"I think this is very comfortable," he purred. Rosalie blushed and tried to think of a way to escape from the red-heads solid hold. She didn't have to. Laito loosened his grip before letting her go. "But as comfortable as this is, it is time for sleep. Sleep tight Kitten," He chimed, before walking away. Rosalie watched him go before she headed in the direction of her own room. Maybe Laito was acting differently? Or was he just being more Laito than he usually was around her? Yui did say that he was a pervert on a daily basis. Maybe she was telling the truth... but then again she did claim that all of the brothers were blood-sucking Vampires and as of yet she hadn't seen any proof of that.

You would think that it would be easy to spot vampires if you lived with them. After all, with six hungry vampires around you would think one of them would have had a bite by now, plus she bleed out all over the floor in front of one of their rooms and even then no one tried anything.

When she reached her room she was greeted by a harsh cold wind. The room was freezing. She walked over to the window and tried to force it shut, but it wouldn't budge, and there was no point in starting a fire in the grate if the heat wouldn't reach her. Reluctantly she changed into her warmest pyjamas and crawled into her bed, falling into a fitful cold sleep.
