Rosalie knew she would be leaving. And she would go without a fight. But that didn't mean she was going to play nice with the four vampires who were going to try to claim dominion over her. That wasn't happening. No way in hell.
The journey there was spent with her headphones in. After all, just because Subaru broke Yui's phone it didn't mean anyone had gotten hold of hers. So, she texted her friends about the change of address. Quintin was not happy, and neither was Breeze, but they left her to it. Rosalie was a big girl. She could handle four half-breeds easily enough. She was wary of living with Kou though. To say they didn't get along was an understatement. Or, more accurately, Kou liked her, and his presence made her want to gag. she knew a half breed when she saw one, and no witch ever associated with a half breed.
Rosalie glared up at the manor house she would be staying in. it was smaller than the Sakamaki house hold. And it had less rose bushes. Hopefully, this wouldn't be the worst experience in the world. they had been human once after all, maybe they would be nice to her.
...
She was wrong. Dead wrong. She hated them. Well most of them. Ruki was stuck up and reminded her too much of her entitled little brother to even want to be around. Not that he let her avoid him. He demanded she do things. Demanded that she stand and watch him read, making him a sandwich and not poison it. It was going to drive her insane. And Kou was no better. Always so preppy and so fake even a con wouldn't try to pass him off as the real deal. And he kept crawling into her bed at night. That annoyed her the most. At least most of the Sakamaki brothers had respected her privacy in her own room. Sure Laito and Kanato sometimes came to cuddle, or for her blood, but at least they would knock first! Every time he did it she would get up and go for a walk.
And that was how her insomnia started.
Kou stealing her bed, not feeling safe enough to sleep, feeling restless, and then spending the nights at school, being kept as far away from the Sakamaki brothers and her friends.
By the third week of living with them she was tired, sore, bored, and frustrated. She couldn't do anything in that infernal house! She was lucky to get her homework done on time with their constant nagging.
But she supposed that Yuma wasn't so bad. Sure he asked for help with his garden, and he made her sit still because she annoyed him too much, but that was about it. And she did get food out of it if there was anything ripe in the garden. And he gave her sugar cubes to shut her up. It worked.
Yuma was also the first of the Mukami brothers to taste her blood. Once was enough for him. It wasn't to his tastes, and then he left her alone. Not that she minded, she knew that Laito said it had an odd spiciness to it, and Ayato and Kanato weren't particularly fond of its taste. If anything it was a relief. One less vampire on her case about feeding them.
She liked Yuma, she suppose. He made sure she was alright. Made sure she ate. Let her nap in his room when she needed to drop but didn't want to be bothered by Kou and his cuddling. He reminded her of a mix between Shuu, Laito and Subaru. Quick to anger, usually laid back and could deal with her mood swings.
She didn't know how she felt about Azusa. He was... odd. Odder than Yui odd. He hurt himself a lot, just because he wanted to feel the pain, like he... enjoyed it. Rosalie didn't understand why anyone would want to feel pain. She had felt enough pain in her life, she wouldn't inflict it willingly on herself. It didn't make any sense. And he wouldn't explain it either. It drove her mad.
She hoped that after a while things would calm down. Maybe once she got used to them and they got used to her everything would be fine. It had taken a while for the triplets to warm up to her after all. Maybe they just needed time?
***
After a month she was at her wits end. They didn't need time. They needed a mental asylum. They were crazy. All of them. Crazy half-breed pests and she had had enough of them, so, in the middle of the cafeteria, she socked Ruki in the jaw and stormed over to sit with the Sakamaki brothers. The whole cafeteria had stood still to watch. Even Laito seemed shocked. He had never actually seen her raise a hand to anyone. It was oddly satisfying.
"You hit him." Yui's words echoed around the room as the other Mukami's checked on their older brother.
"Dirty half-breed thought he could tell me what I can and cant eat. he deserved it," she had hissed back, her words unheard by anyone not at their table.
"Half-breed?" Yui had heard the brothers call the four half-breed before, but she had never heard anyone else call them that.
"Yes, half-breed. pathetic, no good, assholes who think they can tell a full blooded witch what she can and can't do. If it weren't for the fact I had to live with them their heads would already be hanging on a wall. Can I come back to live with you guys. I dont like it at the Mukami's." Ayato snorted in amusement as she went from furious to meek and pouting. Even Subaru seemed to consider it.
"Yeah, give us blondie. It ain't fair that we got the evil bitch. We want the nice one," Kou demanded from behind Reiji. Rosalie smirked in victory as Yui stuttered and tried to make sense of what he had said. "We dont want some demon in the manor." he added before stalking off. Rosalie saw red and sneered at the blond, before he tripped and smacked his face off the edge of a table.
"How clumsy," she mused as the bell rang.
Laito walked her to class for the first time in a month and she reclaimed her seat in front of him. They worked together on a work sheet that she didn't understand and by the time class ended, she proclaimed that Maths was a lost cause.
Laito smirked at her as they walked to the front of the school. They stood together, talking about everything that had happened since they had last spoken and Rosalie couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"So... wait what? Your... your mother possessed Yui? Why? I mean it seems rather odd don't you think? Ghosts are picky about hosts and your mother thought Yui would be a good one? Wow. Now I'm wondering where you actually get those brains of yours. It definitely wasn't from your mothers side, and your father... well he made Ayato who still looks like a toddler dressed him." Laito chuckled with her as the Mukami's appeared. Ruki was sporting a lovely dark purple bruise on his jaw, and Kou looked like someone had smashed his nose in. Those would smart later. How unfortunate. She watched as they strode past her and got into their car, before slamming the door shut and driving away.
Rosalie grinned from ear to ear as she watched them leave. She was finally going to get a good nights sleep! Eventually the rest of the Sakamaki's arrived and Rosalie told them rather cheerfully that she had been abandoned by the Mukami's and therefore she was once again their problem.
That was how she ended up attending the Sakamaki monthly family dinner once again. She fit right in with the conversation with Ayato and Laito about their school subjects. Apparently Ayato's class had a swimming class in a week and Ayato didn't want to go.
"It makes sense," Rosalie had reasoned, but Laito wasn't letting them gang up on him.
"But Ayato-kun can swim just fine, so he should go." Rosalie looked between the two and realised she had made a mistake.
"Ah... well at least it isn't our class. I'm not a very good swimmer. For a witch I'm rather awful at floating," she joked. The two found the funny side of it before they offered to teach her to swim.
"I said I'm not a good swimmer, that doesn't mean I dont know how." the two grinned at her and she knew she was doomed. They were going to make her swim. She just knew it. She cleared her throat and excused herself from the table, before bolting out the room and disappearing into one of the many nook's and crannies' of the large manor house. Maybe she would just wait it out and they would get bored? Yes that's what she would do. They would get bored and she could go to her room and sleep for the whole weekend. Now that sounded nice.
That sounded very nice indeed.
