I walk out on the front lawn with my bag slung over my shoulders and my hands in my pockets. In front of me is an overexcited pilot who happened to jump at the chance to fly an Avenger to Vienna, according to Tony. I'm not entirely sure it's because I'm an Avenger so much as I think the pilot's got a crush on me. I mean, the suspicious look Pietro shot him when we left the hanger after our last goodbyes and best wishes should have been indication enough. Aren't boys supposed to know better than anybody when another guy is flirting with a girl? I don't know. I guess most girls also know when someone's flirting with them, unlike me. I'm like a clueless mushroom who's only concerned with food and sleep.
The pilot shoots me an excited grin over his shoulder as he enters the Quinjet. I offer a tense smile. I easily walk up the ramp of the aircraft and listen as it begins to lift once one of the members of the flight crew shut it behind us. I walk over to the seating against the far wall and plop down on one of the middle seats. I allow my bag to slip off my shoulders and onto the next chair. I pull my phone from my back pocket before rummaging through my bag for my earbuds. I plug them into the jack on my phone and then insert the actual earbuds in my ears before shuffling my music. The best part about having earbuds is it's almost like this modern day way of telling people not to talk to you. I mean, come on, that's great.
Giving a quiet exhale, I lean my head back and look at the metal ceiling as I feel us begin to lift into the air. I can't remember how long my pilot said the flight would be considering he spoke so fast and most of his words got jumbled together. I wasn't sure if it was nerves or just excitement, but I just smiled and nodded like I knew what he was saying. I kind of regret that now, but hey, we get there when we get there. Even if it isn't fast enough for me.
Oh no, I'm becoming impatient like Pietro.
....Nah, I've always been impatient.
Smiling to myself, I allow my eyes to shut and begin to think happy thoughts. Hopefully, this trip will be quick and I'll be back to Headquarters as quickly as humanly possible.
I'll be back to Pietro as quickly as possible.
This causes my eyes to open. I lift my head before looking down at my phone in my hands. Smirking to myself, I unlock it before going into messages. I create a new conversation between the Speedster and me.
'Hey, how about we get ice cream when I get back?'
I send and wait for a reply.'Sounds like a date to me.'
Is the response I receive. It causes me to smile and relax into my chair. And so the long hours begin to tick down as I travel across the world to Austria.Vienna, here I come.
▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁
I stifle a yawn as I open my eyes, being woken by one of the crew members. They alert me we're landing. I offer him thanks for waking me. Once the aircraft finally lands, I stand from my seat and pick up my bag before swinging it over my shoulders. The ramp lowers slower than I want it to, but I stand and wait anyways. I pull the earbuds from my ears and swing the cord around the back of my neck. I open my phone and close all applications before slipping it back into my pocket. By then, the ramp is fully open. Smiling lightly to myself, I lift one hand to shield my eyes from the sunlight as I exit the aircraft, giving the crew a small wave as I leave. My lips curl up into a smile as walk across the tarmac, heading towards a familiar face.
