" what I'm about to tell you, has never been heard by any other mortal outside of the Crawford family." I spoke warningly. Wen nodded his head up and down so hard that his glasses slid down his nose. He nerdly pushed them back up with his pointer finger. Giving me his full attention.
We had walked back from the pond to my house. It was still only three. I let him change into a pair of my old baggy pajamas. Instead of making him suffer in wet clothing. It looked foreign on him. I had changed into an old softball jersey that I had cut the sleeves off, and some athletic shorts. My hair raggedly framed my face.
We sat together on my living room couch, An old movie played on the TV.
" alright. A long time ago, there lived a strong Scottish man, His name was Crawford. He was short and stocky, but he had the heart of a lion. He was also stubborn as hell. He had done everything their was to do in the homeland. He had won all the games, and explored all the land. He wanted something more, So he set off. On along journey across the sea. In search of new hope and adventure. After a long lonesome journey against the raging tides. He arrived on land. It was absolutely stunning. Their was so much to discover and learn. Nothing stood in his way, He made sure of it. He was always kind to the natives unlike the explorers to follow. So in return they gave him a place to stay and food to eat. This was all he could have wanted in life. Yet he still craved for something more, he just couldn't put his finger on it. Then he saw her. This exotic beauty. Her long black hair, and dark feature s were so striking and wonderful. Her name was autumn.
He new in that moment he had to have her. So being the cocky man he was he strolled right up to her and began to flirt. While she did find him attractive, she knew he was an outsider and could never love nature as she did. She did her best to ignore him but, he was persistent and extremely handsome. So after years of asking she finally agreed to go on a date. He treated her with so much respect and compassion, she was so kind and loving. She showed him the ways of her people. One thing lead to another. And on the night of their wedding she revealed to him her secret. That she was infact a magical being known as a shape shifter. She was worried he would leave her but instead, Crawford loved her even more. They eventually had a child. Who they named Maverick. Maverick Crawford. Unfortunately Crawford senior wasn't the only one who wanted new land. But these explorers had bad intentions. Their village was ransacked. All the natives were taken captive or slaughtered. Autumn was killed. Only Crawford and maverick were spared dew to their pale complexion. They were both devastated. So desperate to keep his wifes legacy remembered. He placed a curse in which any daughter born from Crawford decent would be named autumn. And she would be blessed with the powers of her ancestor, and seek out those who's blood line crosses with hpthose who murdered his wife that will be that sole goal in life. To eradicate there blood line." I had heard the tale a thousand times but that was the first time it had ever escaped from my lips. Wen stood their speechless.
I spoke to fill the onward silence. " I am the so far oldest autumn daughter. The previous have all been killed at birth. That's why I have to live like this, And why you must not tell a sole!"
He rapped his arms around me and gave me a hug. As if to feel sorry for me. I let him. It wasn't the response I was expecting. I like that. His black framed glasses stabbed into my shoulder, but I didn't dare move. He pulled away. And stared into my now glowing eyes.
"I give you my word.
Oh and I'm sorry... I was so weird earlier. Its just you saved my life so i thought..... But then yesterday....and I was so angry....then today.... And I was confused...but now." He stuttered. I'm glad he wasn't going to talk directly about Shane and yesterday. I pulled him in for another hug.
" I know, life's weird dude." I said leaning back onto the couch. I laughed. So did he. I was just glad to lighten the mood.
" its only 4 you want something to drink?" I said
" yay I'll take a beer" he joked. I snorted that was right up my sense of humor.
" lemonade it is." I said walking into the
kitchen. "your folks care when you get back?"
" no they barely know I exist. I got 7 syblings. Besides their probably drunk anyways."
" huh. Nice" I said. Stepping back into the living room hands full of icecold glasses.
Mabey this boy and I had more in common then I previously thought.
