I woke up the next morning and heard a loud screech. I looked up to find that I was in some weird seat with Yinlel and Yelix next to me. I looked around as the events from the past few days flooded back into my mind. I couldn't stop the lump in my throat when I remembered that we might not have much time left. Yinlel was already awake and feeding Yelix. We would have to get his bottle refilled when we stopped next. "When is the next stop?" I asked Yinlel. He just shrugged his shoulders and looked back down at Yelix. I sighed and sat back in my seat and stared out the window.
I thought about what Makara had said to me. She said that I had magic... I knew she was wrong. She had to be. I had no magic blood in me. If I did I would have found that magic by now. I hadn't I couldn't even move a simple pebble with my mind or mind speak. I was pathetic! I lived in a village full of magic folk and I had non to speak of! I knew that I didn't belong there. The more I thought about it the clearer my choice had become.
An hour later the bus stopped. This would be our last rest stop before we reached our destination. I shook Yinlel awake and we got off the bus to find water supply. We went to a small building down to street from the bus stop. Molly called it a gas station. I went to the back where a metal box hooked up to the wall that had a spout coming off the top. I pushed on a button and water came out. I held the bottles up to it one at a time. Once they were filled I splashed my face with the water. That earned me a dirty look from the man out the table up front. We walked out to go sit at the bus stop and wait until it left again. I added formula to the water filled bottles and fed Yelix.
Yinlel was oddly quiet. I wanted to tell him about my plan but I decided now wasn't the time. About an hour passed when the driver came up to us with a tired expression. "You riding this bus?" he asked us. I nodded my head. "It might be a while before we head out again. It needs fixed." he said half heartedly. I nodded again and glanced at Yinlel. "You might as well get some sleep while we wait" he said to me. Once again I nodded then handed Yelix over to him and laid my head down on his shoulder and let my eyes fall shut.
For the second time I was standing in the valley. There was a crack in the ground. The crack seemed to be glowing. I started pulling at the rocks trying to see what was under the rocks but every time I pulled away a rock a new one came. I struggled starting to pull two at a time now. They just kept reappearing in the pile. The glow began to get brighter. Stronger it started to burn my eyes. I pulled back shielding my eye and the voice rang out loudly, "Only magic blood to find them. Only magic blood can find them to save them. Find THEM to save THEM". The voice repeated over and over in my head. I wanted to scream out to the voice, to tell it I couldn't help.
I had no magic blood, but I couldn't find my voice. The voice began again, this time more harsh. Almost deeper, a different voice. It said, "You can't save them. You are NO good to them, only an annoyance, and a burden!" I knew the voice was right. I knew i was nothing in a village full of magic life. That wouldn't stop me from trying to save them. I began to dig faster pulling the rocks away in twos and threes. It still wasn't working! I worked harder and faster hearing the screams of the village, smelling the burning trees! I dug even faster still!
My hand got caught on a sharp edged rock and I began to bleed heavily. I was suddenly very dizzy. Then a familiar voice rang out, Markar's voice, "Only magic blood can find them, only TRUE magic blood can find THEM to save THEM"
Then all was black.
I woke up suddenly breathing hard, I looked around. We were still outside. The bus was gone and it was dark. I shook Yinlel awake. He grumbled something and sat up slowly. "Yinlel!! It is gone!! The bus has left us!" I shouted as he finished waking up. His eyes widened. "What?" he asked groggily. "THEY ARE GONE!! The bus left us!! We slept to long!!" I cried out then quieted myself so I wouldn't wake Yelix. "Calm down. I still have the map Molly gave us. We will just have to walk, nothing we haven't done before" he replied calmly. I simply nodded and stood up. "We should start now...." I said quietly. He nodded then looked at me noticing my sudden quietness. I simply looked away and picked up out stuff and began walking. He followed holding a sleeping Yelix.
It was strange walking around at night in this strange place wearing these strange clothes. All in all I wasn't comfortable but it was what needed done. I stayed quiet most of the time. Yinlel seemed to notice but whenever he asked I simply shrugged and pushed forward a bit more. He looked at me again and I hid my eyes behind my hair.
He stopped walking. I stopped and turned to face him. "Why are you stopped? We don't have much time!" I said a bit frustrated. He crossed his arms. "Not until you tell me what is wrong!" He answered stubbornly. I shook my head. "I don't know what you are talking about!" His gaze did not let up. "Anya I know better than to believe that! Tell me what is wrong!" He cried waiting for an answer from me. I looked at the ground for a moment before looking back up. "Just a dream nothing big" I promised. I left out the part about hearing Makara's voice. I wasn't even sure what to make of it yet! He looked at me almost as if he wasn't sure but he let it go.
We walked for about 3 hours. My feet were sore and my legs were shaking. Yinlel seemed to notice. "How about we take a break" he suggested. I shook my head not wanting to waste any more time than possible. He rolled his eyes. "If we rest now we will have more energy to walk later" I still shook my head. He looked at me for a moment then stopped walking. I spun around to face him "Yinlel we have to keep moving!!!" I said very frustrated. He smirked and sat down right there. I rolled my eyes again. Then I kept walking. I expected him to follow but he did not. I was not going to let him win so I just kept on walking.
I walked until the sun came up I was several miles ahead of Yinlel but I kept walking. Finally the sun was up but I was not I collapsed on the ground and fell asleep dreamlessly. I woke up to see Yinlel grinning down at me. "You made good time but if you had stopped and rested with me then we could be to the next town by now" he said helping me up. I didn't answer but scowled at him instead. He still had Yelix with him. Lucky baby got to sleep all he wanted while we carried him. I leaned on Yinlel a bit still exhausted from the long walk. He let me lean on him. My bare arm touched his. I could feel dull tingles at out touching skin. I quickly stood on my own and tried to shake the feeling. I wasn't sure what that was but I didn't want to find out just yet. He shot me a confused look but I just looked away blushing.
When we got to the next town we split up to go get some more food. I took Yelix to fill his bottle and wash up a little and Yinlel went to go get food and direction. I walked into another one of those stations and the man by the front pointed the restrooms for me. I nodded in thanks then headed to it. I washed off my arms and face and wiped Yelix down. I went to the fountain and refilled Yelix's bottle. I walked outside. It was now dark out. I was supposed to meet Yinlel outside of here.
I looked around and saw a tall figure walking over. I smiled and waited for him to finish coming up. But once he was in view I saw that it wasn't Yinlel. Instead it was a strange man. He had a friend with him. I backed off a bit. I didn't know these people. I backed up more but ran into a solid wall of flesh and spun around to see another man behind me. I yelped as he grabbed me around the waste and picked me up. I clutched Yelix tighter and struggled to get free. The other two men closed in. One had a shiny metal object in his hand. It looked similarly shaped to a small boomerang. It had a handle with a small trigger and a short spout coming off the front. He pressed it to my side "Stop moving and shut up!" he commanded.
"W...what is that?!?" I asked my eyes wide with fear. He laughed. "What never seen a gun before?" He asked. I had no clue what that way I kicked him and the man holding me and I ran. The third one picked up the gun and I heard a loud crack ring through the air. I stopped dead in my tracks... a sharp pain shooting up my leg. I collapsed immediately making sure not to drop Yelix. I screamed. I looked down and saw blood pouring out of my leg. Soon the men closed in on me and then it all went black.
