"Today is it, I'm finally getting a pokemon! I'll be the champion for sure!" Young ten year old Joshua exclaimed. He rushed down the stairs, his mom stopping him. "I suppose everyone grows up and moves on, it said so on tv." she hugged him. "Just, please, be safe out there, ok?" "I promise" he said, eager to get out of the house. When he got out he looked around pallet town, his home. He felt a little sad about leaving it, but He wanted to get moving. He'd always wanted to be the champion. He just had to find Professor Oak and he'd be on his way. The only problem was, Oak was nowhere to be seen. Joshua checked the lab, the garden, everywhere, but could find no sign of the man. He finally figured that Oak went out to study, so he decided to go look for him until....
"Hey! Wait! Don't go out!" Josh turned quickly, surprised. "I't unsafe! Wild pokemon live in the tall grass! You need your own pokemon for your protection. I know! Here, come with me!" Josh recognized the man as professor Oak, though he had no idea where the man came from, surely thinking he searched the whole town. Oak led him back to the lab, where Joshua found his long time rival and bully, Red.
"Gramps! I'm tired of waiting!" Red complained. Being the grandson of the Professor, he had become quite a whiner. "Red? let me think...Oh, that's right, I told you to come! Just wait." Oak explained. "Here, Joshua. There are three pokemon here." Josh looked around, but found nothing. he looks at the professor confused. "Haha! The pokemon are held inside the poke balls. When I was young, I was a serious pokemon trainer. But now, in my old age, I have only these three left. You can have one. Go on, choose." Oak explained, upsetting Red. "Hey! Gramps! No fair! I want one!" Red whined. "Be patient, Red. You can have one too." Oak explained. Red turned, saying that Joshua could choose because he was mature. Joshua went over, already knowing which pokemon he wanted.
"Ah! Charmander is your choice. You should raise it patiently. So, Joshua, you're claiming the fire type pokemon charmander?" Joshua nodded, claiming charmander to be his first pokemon, while noticing it was energetic. He also picked a name out, dubbing his new partner Inferno, who seemed to like the name very much.
Red, scoffing at how childish naming a pokemon was, went over to claim his, also knowing which one he wanted.
"I want this one then!" claiming squirtle as his pokemon. Josh noticed this but didn't think much on it.
They both left the lab, Red trying to challenge his rival but Oak intervened, stating that they should get to know their pokemon first before rushing headfirst into battle. They both left on route one, knowing they will battle again in the future. This is the start of something big.
