It had been a day since Joshua had entered the burned mansion, getting questions like what a Mewtwo was. He entered the key into the gym, gaining entrance.
He found all of these weird machines, asking him simple questions. He still fought for experience, and went back to heal and evolve Polywhorl into Polywrath before taking on Blaine, the gym leader.
"Hah! I am Blaine, the red hot leader of Cinnabar Gym! My fiery pokemon are all rough and ready with intense heat! They incinerate all challengers! Hah! You better have burn heal!" The old man barked, sending out his Growlithe.
"Bring it on!" Joshua challenged, sending out his water pokemon.
"Glad I caught you, we'd be toast otherwise." Joshua said, chuckling at his pun.
"Use Take down!" Blaine said, wanting to end this water pokemon quickly.
"Water pulse!" Joshua said, his pokemon countering with the desired move. Growlithe took the hit, hard. It stayed up, but was confused.
"Try take down, go!" Blaine said. His Growlithe charged.....straight into a wall, K'Oing himself. Blaine called back his pokemon, knowing this could end badly.
"Go, Ponyta!" Blaine sent out, a fiery pony coming out of the flash of light. "Try this on kid, Bounce!"
Ponyta flew high, Joshua and Polywrath looking up in amazement. when the fire type came back down, it slammed Polywrath, K'Oing it.
"How?" Joshua asked, confused while calling back his pokemon.
"Hahaha! You were smart to bring a water type here boy. But bounce is a flying type move, and your Polywrath is weak to such moves, being part fighting." Blaine said, getting Joshua to go pale. He intended on Polywrath to wreck this place, not get taken down within with only one victory.
"Go, Nino!" Joshua yelled, sending out his poison/ground type. "Well, here's something not weak to flyers. Earthquake!" Joshua said, Nino causing the earth to shift. Ponyta went down, but not for long. it got back up, and used fire spin. Nino became trapped in the fiery vortex, unable to be called back.
"Earthquake again!" Joshua yelled, concerned for his pokemon. Nino used earthquake, and this time ponyta stayed down. But they weren't out of the woods yet. Blaine still had two pokemon left, and Nino wouldn't last long.
"Go, Rapidash." Blaine said, sending out his third pokemon. Joshua looked and wondered if his last one would be a Arcanine.
"Take down, Go!" Blaine said, and Rapidash charged Nino, who used earthquake. it damaged the fire type, but it didn't stop Rapidash from slamming into Nino, taking damage from recoil and poison point. they both went down, and Joshua knew he had no more elemental advantages.
"Alright, Raichu lets take this one by storm!" Joshua thundered. (Not even sorry)
"Arcanine, Time to go!" Blaine yelled, sending out his last pokemon.
"Thunderbolt!" Joshua commanded, his Raichu letting loose a massive bolt that hit Arcanine.
"Fire blast!" Blaine countered, Arcanine shooting out a massive star of fire that Raichu dead on, burning him.
"Raichu, one last move. Thunderbolt!" Joshua said, afraid he might be pushing to hard. Raichu however sent out a much stronger bolt than usual. Joshua realized that Raichu just learned thunder, and it put Arcanine down.
"Good job!" Joshua yelled, going to retrieve his pokemon.
"I have burned down to nothing! Not even ashes remain!" Blaine said, with a look of disappointment.
"Joshua left with his seventh badge, and with a month left he was confident he'd make it. He healed his pokemon, and found someone he didn't expect.
Bill.
