Chapter 7

James’s POV

I just stood there as she ran I couldn’t believe what I’d just seen. Heath had marked my mate god I was an idiot. My priorities had been completely screwed up. Jasmine didn’t deserve to be with someone like him but I didn’t want him touching my Sarah. I knew I’d been a complete asshole to her but I thought it would protect her from people that didn’t like me. He’d gotten into my house and taken my mate away from me without me noticing. Alpha or not that asshole wasn’t touching Sarah again. I’d have to find her first though. I went home and saw that Jasmine and Ian were gone out on her girls’ night. They always went to movies on Friday shit that jerk could get to the kids. I ran upstairs and went over to their room. “Girls”, I said running in to see them sitting on the floor in front of the TV with Sarah braiding their hair.

“Daddy”, Vicky said running over and hugging my leg, “I missed you Sarah let us watch Camp Rock”.

“She braided our hair do you like it?” Diana asked excitedly, “Sarah said I looked like a movie star”.

“Thanks for watching them”, I said relieved.

“I didn’t want to leave them alone”, she said still looking at the screen.

“Can we talk?” I asked hopefully.

“Alright girls want to see the roof”, she said standing up.

“Yay”, they said then we all went up to the roof and the girls sat down beside the flowers and she went over far enough away that they couldn’t hear us.

“What?” she asked seriously.

“Look you didn’t give me a chance to explain back there”, I said trying to see through the blur of alcohol I’d induced.

“Go ahead”, she said.

“Look when Jasmine first came to me I said no because I knew you were my mate but she was scared when she came back over and over again and pregnant with Diana I didn’t know how to help her and keep you and I made a stupid choice”, I explained.

“I hope you’re not looking for an argument”, she said clearing her throat.

“I know and I’m going to try and fix it”, I assured her.

“But what about tonight isn’t Katie counting on your return?” she said crossing her arms.

“That was an accident I was drunk out of my mind”, I tried to explain.

“Why were you drunk?” she asked.

“Do you know how hard it is to resist now?” I said frustrated, “especially wearing that”.

“So this is my fault”, she said pissed off.

“No, none of this is your fault it’s all on me”, I said grabbing her arm and I felt the sparks run through me.

“I don’t even know where to start in fixing things”, she said putting her head in her hands.

“Let me mark you”, I said suddenly.

“What is that going to solve?” she asked confused.

“It’ll break the link to Jasmine and Heath and then it’ll be easier to figure things out”, I said looking into her eyes.

“No it won’t we’ll just be able to hear each other’s thoughts”, she argued.

“I can’t lose you for any amount of time not again Sarah”, I said soberly.

“You promise we’ll talk afterwards and you won’t leave me”, she said unsure.

“I don’t have the strength to be away from you again”, I said wrapping her in my arms.

“Me either”, she laughed then I kissed her and she kissed me back. I’d never actually kissed Sarah before and I liked what I experienced. It didn’t feel fake or rehearsed, it felt real. I kissed her for a long period then snaked my hand around her and kissed her down to the base of her neck and sucked the soft spot. She moaned and I sank my teeth in and then licked the wound clean.

“Done”, I said pulling away to look into her big brown eyes.

“We should go downstairs Ian and Jasmine will be home soon”, she said clearing her throat.

“Good idea”, I said then saw the lights go out, “your ex is here”.

“I should really get a restraining order girls stay behind the flowers”, she warned.

“Come on”, I said taking her back behind the flowers and we stayed back there. I saw him walk up to the roof and I held Sarah close.

“Girls”, he called, “I know you’re up here”.

“Go away”, Diana said standing up without warning, “just go away”.

“Diana, don’t” Vicky said trying to pull her down.

“Diana”, he said then grabbed her before anyone could stop him. Sarah got up and hit him a few times but no one freaked out as much as Diana. She started screaming and kicking and flaying out.

“LET ME GO”, she screamed in his ear. Sarah finally sucker punched him and grabbed Diana away and ran downstairs and I followed with Vicky. I followed them over to my car and we all got in before he could stop us and over to the movie theater.

“Sarah, James, Vicky, Diana what are you doing here?” she asked surprised.

“Heath is here we have to go”, I explained.

“What?” she said standing up, “he can’t be here now”.

“He is we have to get somewhere safe”, Sarah said grabbing Ian and taking him outside, “I’ll explain it to you later Ian”.

“I don’t want to go with you guys”, Jasmine said once we were outside, “I want to go somewhere I want to go”.

“We have to go now”, Sarah said going to the car, “he’ll be here soon”.

“I’m not going with you guys”, she said shaking her head.

“Mommy don’t leave us”, Diana said hugging her leg, “we love you too much”.

“Well I don’t love you brat you ruined my life you’re the reason my life went down to the shitter”, she yelled at her.

“Mommy”, she cried.

“Goodbye”, she said getting in her car and leaving and each of us grabbed a girl and Ian got into the passenger seat.

“I’m driving”, I said getting into the driver’s seat and Sarah got in the back with the girls just as Heath pulled up.

“Where do we go?” I asked as we hit the highway.

“I think you should all meet the ice queen”, she sighed.

“We’re on the way”, I agreed, “You’re the map”.

“Agreed”, she laughed.
