~ Chapter 2 ~

“Hi,” I replied, smiling at him. Being this close I could smell his cologne and could see his face better. His nose and eyes were in the perfect position, and his face was flawless. Geez Jamie, I scolded myself. You’ve only just met him and you are already checking him out. Snap out of it. He would never like a girl like you. I moved my chair over slightly to make room for Keith. Looking up at the clock on the wall, I realised we only had a few minutes left of class, meaning there was no time for me to do my speech. Not that I cared. To be honest, I couldn’t have been happier. When the bell finally sounded I packed up my books and put my pencil and eraser back into my purple and aqua pencil case. Most of the class had already left, but Keith waited for me, smiling shyly. You know when I said I couldn’t have been happier before? Well … I may have lied.

Standing up, I turned to Keith and motioned to his books. “What do you have next?” I asked, while walking out of the classroom. “History,” he said. “What about you?” “I have maths,” I said, groaning. “You don’t like maths?” he asked, grinning. “No,” I replied, truthfully. “I’m not too good at it either.” Most boys would just laugh at me, but funnily enough he didn’t. “I could help you, you know,” Keith said, with a hopeful look in his eyes.  I looked at him again, to make sure he wasn’t joking. He wasn’t. “Um sure,” I said. “When are you free?” I asked him. “Whenever,” he said. “What about today after school?” I suggested. “Meet me in the library?” “Sure,” he said, beaming from ear to ear. “See you then, Jamie.”

Turning around to face my locker, I struggled with my door. My door always played up and I seemed to always be having trouble with it. A strong arm reached over my shoulder and opened it with ease. “Show off,” I said, playfully pushing my brother in the stomach. “Weakling,” he replied, pushing me back. I smiled at Pete. He was annoying at times, but I couldn’t ask for a better, more protective, funnier brother. I grabbed my books for maths and slammed my locker shut. Walking to class, Katherine fell into step beside me. She was in my maths class. “Hey Jam,” she said. “Hi,” I said. “Good speech by the way,” I said, earnestly. “By far, the best in the class.” “Thanks Jam. Yours wasn’t bad yourself,” she said, winking at me. Silence fell over us for a few seconds. “Hey Jam?” she asked. “Mhm,” I replied. “What’s with you and new boy?” she asked, smirking at me. My face flushed red for the second time today. “Nothing,” I said. “If you really think that, you’re kidding yourself,” Katherine said, raising an eyebrow. “Have you seen the way he looks at you?” I hadn’t really thought about that before. “He doesn’t like me, if that’s what you’re suggesting,” I said. Sensing I had made up my mind, Katherine dropped the topic. We entered the classroom and dumped our books down on a desk together. When the teacher Mr Grande entered, the class began.
