*Hunter's POV*
Sydney avoids me like the flu at school after first period. I always see her in the hallway, but she does not even spare me a glance today. I assume she is still coming over after school today. I probably just embarrassed her, so she started acting weird.

After the end-of-the-day bell rings, I head out into the parking lot to find Tyler, who is my ride on some days. I, then, get a text from an Unknown Number that says, "Hey, just letting you know, this is Sydney, I don't know if I can come over, I have Drama Rehearsal." No she is not getting away that easy. "How did you get my number, Sydney? Also, just cause you are embarrassed, it doesn't mean you have to make excuses so you don't have to come over. I know I'm undeniably hot, but that doesn't stop me from failing." I reply.
Sydney doesn't reply until I am halfway home. "Dude, why are you texting an Unknown Number?" I realize I have yet to put her name into my contacts. I copy her number and try to think about what to make her contact name. I ultimately make it "Sydney 🤓". "So... Who's Sydney?" Tyler asks. "My sister's friend." I reply, nonchalantly. "Uh-huh. You have an unread text, by the way." He replies. Okay then. It reads, "Okay. I'll be there at 7. A little late, because I actually do have Drama Rehearsal. Don't pretend to be a clingy boyfriend." Tyler reads over my shoulder, as I smile at the text. Of course, she would reply pretending to flirt, when I know she is probably blushing at school, feeling a little uncomfortable. "Wait! You have a girlfriend?!? Man, why didn't you tell me?" I reread the text. Oh. He read the word 'boyfriend' and just assumed. I laugh and say, "No." He looks at me, expecting me to say more. I don't.

He drops me off at my house and I don't reply to her text until he is completely gone. "Okay, see you then. 😏" I could have said worse, to make her even more uncomfortable, but I decide against it.

7 pm roles around and I hear a knock on the door. It is Jack and Sydney. I look at Jack expectantly, looking for answers as to why he is here. "Is Leila home?" I point to the kitchen, where Leila is, and Jack runs over to her. So maybe he does like my little sis. "Hey Hunter." Sydney says. She looks at my eyes. "When are you going to be a proper person and wear glasses?" I laugh. "Never. Glasses are nerdy. You'd know." I say, even though she doesn't wear glasses. "You jerk!" She says, realizing I called her a nerd. "Time to study, perhaps?"

We stomp up to my room and immediately sit on the bed. She gets right into studying, starting with Environmental Science, which I am terrible at, and somewhere all in between when she was talking, she switched to European History. "Okay, so when did the Second World War take place?" She asks me, and I totally am not listening, because we have been studying for an hour straight, without any breaks.

"Hunter..? Are you listening to me?" She yells, shaking my shoulders. "Huh?" I say, popping out of my own trance. I realize that I don't know if she has a boyfriend or not. Why not ask her?  My thoughts boom. So I do it. "Sydney..?" I start. She looks up, hoping I answer the dang question. "Do you have a boyfriend?" "Uh- Hunter, we really should be studying?" She says, avoiding eye contact and the question. I pull her shoulders to face me and I probably shouldn't have done it, but whatever. I'm a "risk taker". "Oh.. Are you gay?" I say, hoping she says no. Wait, why, do I hope that? Because you probably are going to end up liking her! My thoughts are making me do weird things tonight. "NO." She shouts.

"Okay calm down. So a boyfriend then?" I ask. "You promise you won't laugh?" She says, holding out her pinky. I assume she has a non-attractive boyfriend or something. I take her pinky and shake on it. "IHaveNeverHadABoyfriendOkay!" She says, jamming all of her words together, but I still understand what she says. She has got to be kidding. "You do understand we are in our senior year, right?" I say, almost laughing, a smirk on my face. "YOU PROMISED YOU WOULDN'T LAUGH! YOU SHOOK ON IT! YOU LIAR!" She says, or more yells. "I'm sorry, that's just not believable. Oh you Delicate Flower." I say. "What do you mean? I'm just Sydney. I don't even have many friends..." She says, shying away. "I find that unbelievable as well." I say and I honestly do. She is too smart, too pretty, and actually kind of funny, so how can she not have friends? "Well, since you asked first, what about you? Who is the current bubble gumming popper you are dating? Is there like 8 of them?" WOW. Rude. "Actually.. I'm single right now. And I'm not a player like that. We football players are not players in the dating field." I say. "Uh-huh.. Sure. I find that hard to believe. You can get any girl you want." She says.

Since she is stereotyping me, I decide to tease her. "But there's only one girl I want.. And she doesn't feel the same." I say, hoping that she asks who. "Oh yeah. Who's that?" "You." I say, wanting to see the look on her face. She begins to blush and look away. "We just met.. Hunter..." I begin to laugh. "I AM KIDDING!" She gets an angry looks on her face and the blush disappears. "That's not cool. Do you do that to all the girls? Mess with girls? Imagine if I actually liked you and thought 'I AM FINALLY GOING TO HAVE MY CHANCS WITH HUNTER DANIELS' only for you to laugh it off! Girls are insecure, and for you to do that, well, it makes you an insensitive asshole." She gets up, and gathers her things. Why is she so angry? Is it that time of the month? She storms out of my house, muttering a 'bye' to Jack and Leila. When she leaves, I change her name in my phone to 'Delicate Flower 🌺".
