Chapter 5
Shawn's POV
~After school~
I walked out to hop on my motorcycle and head home to the little apartment that my mom, my little sister, and I lived in. I couldn't get Charlie's voice outta my head,"I am so not like other girls. Get used to it, pardner." Those twelve words kept running through my head like I had recorded it and was playing it on repeat. The thing is, that she's right. She is nothing like any other girl I've encountered, but that's why getting to know her will be so much more fun.
I walked through out front door and dropped my bag off in my room. "Hey, mom." I said, walking into the kitchen and kissing her on the cheek. "Hey, babe. How was school?" she asked, stirring the pot in front of her. "Interesting," was my only reply. My 8 year old sister, Sophie, was sitting in our living room watching TV. She looked up when I walked in, "Bubba, will you take me to the park please?" "Sure thing, Soph." I grabbed the helmet I bought for her and poked my head back in the kitchen, "Mom, I'm gonna take Sophie to the park. Ok?" She turned around,"Yeah, but swing by and pick up some groceries on the way home. Your saddlebags are in the closet." "Got it."
I grabbed my saddlebags and told Sophie to come on. I put my saddlebags on my bike, fastened mine and Sophie's helmets, and then we were off to the park. At the park, Sophie saw one of her little friends from school and went to play with her. I had brought some of my homework with me, so I sat down against a tree to work on it. We had been at the park for about half an hour when I heard a girlish shriek and them,"BUBBA!!!!" Sophie was screaming for me. I dropped my book and ran to where she was. She was sitting on the ground crying while a boy her age stood over her laughing. I saw a girl my age running from the other direction.
The girl stopped in front of me and I saw it was Charlie. I drew my attention back to Sophie and kneeled down next to her. "Sophie, what happened?" She started explaining and trying to calm down. "I was playing with Holly and Mary when this boy comes over and starts calling us mean names. I got in his face, like you said, and told him to stop, but he pushed me down and starting to kick me."
I stood up looming over the boy,"Is that true?" He nodded, but he looked scared. "What has my little sister ever done to you?" I asked. "N-n-nothing," he stuttered slowly. "Well then, I hope this doesn't happen again." I got down in his face, "It won't happen again, will it?" "N-n-n-no, sir!" he shook his head very hard. "Good, now run along." He did, and Sophie went back to her friends.
Charlie looked at me, "Bubba?" "Yep. Was that your little brother?" I asked. "Heck no, I'm an only child. Jeremy is the twins' little brother. I just watch him sometimes." I nodded understandingly. I pulled out my phone to look at the time. Crap! "Soph, we gotta go. C'mon! Bye, Charlie." Sophie and I hopped on the bike, made a quick stop at the store, and headed home for the night.
