Chapter 11

Shawn's POV

I still couldn't believe what I'd seen last night. She looked so different from normal. This morning in the truck, on the way to school, I couldn't stop staring at her. I guess she finally noticed because she looked at me and screeched,"Would you stop that?!" I blushed and looked down. I guess I hadn't realized I was staring at her, but I just couldn't help it.

She seemed mad at me for some reason, but I don't know why. Was it something I did? Or something I said? I don't know. She wouldn't look me in the eye, and as soon as she had parked, she was out the truck walking away. "Charlie!" I called, running after her. She hurried to the guys and turned around. "Leave me alone," she spat at me. One of the twins grabbed her in a hug, and Chase, Gage, and Zane (I think) got between me and them. They crossed their arms creepily at the same time. I was no wimp, but there was no way I was going against these three.

They glared at me. The other twin looked at me and growled,"Get away, now!" I took a step back, "What the hell?" I had no idea what I had done or why they were acting like this. The three took a step towards me. "What did I do?" I practically screamed. Charlie pushed away from the twin holding her and stood in front of me. "You didn't do anything, I promise. Could you just leave me alone with the guys for now? Please?" She looked up at me, her eyes shining with the tears she was trying so hard to hold back. My jaw dropped open in shock. What had happened to this rough and tough girl to make her like this right now? "I will tell you what's going on later, but please just leave us for now?" She was pleading me now, and I couldn't stand it.

I gathered her into my arms, and kissed the top of her head. "You don't have to tell me, but I'll leave now." I turned around and walked away, surprised by my own actions. School seemed to go by in a blur. Charlie and the guys were there for first period, but I didn't see any of them during lunch or in Biology. After the last bell, I hurried to the parking lot. The truck was still parked there, but I didn't see Charlie or the guys around anywhere. Then I noticed a piece of paper on the windshield of the truck. It was a note to me. Shawn, today isn't a good day for me, and the guys brought me home around third period. I left the truck for you to get home by. If you want to know what's wrong with me, just drop by my house when you come home. The keys are tucked into the rear driver side wheel well. Sorry if I worried you. ~Charlie.

Well of course I was worried about her, so I located the keys and hopped into the truck. I drove to her house as quickly as I could without getting into legal trouble. I parked the truck, locked it and knocked on the door. Gage opened it up, and nodded me in. I followed him to the living room, where Charlie was...cuddled I guess would be the right word, between two of the guys, with the rest hovering around like mother hens. She looked up, and I could tell she'd been crying for a while. She tried to smile at me, and motioned for me to come over. "I guess that since you came you want to know what's wrong." I nodded, "If you don't mind me knowing."

She opened her mouth, but Chase stopped her, "Can we trust him not to tell?" I almost rolled my eyes. She laughed dryly, "What could he possibly gain from telling people? Plus, I don't really give a shit what people think about me." Chase looked over at me, "I swear, if you tell this without her consent we will all kill you?" The rest of the guys nodded. "I won't tell, I swear." Charlie sighed and looked at me. "It all started about seventeen years ago..."
