Chapter 4
Charlie's POV
Lunch was entertaining, as usual. Jason, the shorter twin, leans over and whispers," Hey, baby, you wanna meet me later??" He's gay and proud so we can joke like this. After lunch, I had biology, which I hate with a passion. Yay. We were waiting for the teacher to walk in, so we were all just kinda hanging out and talking. Maecala, the resident slut, was over near Shawn and was trying to get her fake claws in him, but he shot her down, hysterically I might add. Finally, Mr. Wilbum walked in and we all sat down. "Today you're going to get assigned partners for the rest of the year, and no, you can't change them so no complaining." Mr. Wilbum announced. The twins got paired together, Gage and Zane got paired together, and Chase got paired with an emo kid who's really quiet but sweet. Then I heard, "Shawn Ross and Charlie Dawns..." Oh, shit. Why me, of all people?
Mr. Wilbum clapped his hands to get our attention, "Now you need to move next to your partner." I walked over to where Shawn was sitting and I felt like I had blocks of concrete on my ankles. He smirked, "Howdy, pardner." Why does it seem like he's enjoying my pain?
"This month we will be studying marine biology, but for today I just want you to get to know your partner." Mr. Wilbum sat behind his desk and started doing something on his computer. Shawn turned to me as his smirk got even bigger. "So, how'd you get the shiner?" he asks, sounding truly curious. "One of the jocks was teasing Jason about being gay, it wasn't the first time either, so I went off on him. I got a shiner but he got a hospital visit." I cracked a smile just thinking about it.
He looked as me and did that little whistle thing as he raised an eyebrow. "Which one is Jason?" he asked. "The shorter twin," I replied,"and yes, he is gay and proud. We still love him and he rarely gets bullied about it anymore." He nodded. "So, what about you? How can you stand being a slut magnet? Because that little episode with Maecala earlier was hilarious!" He pretends to look offended,"I don't just attract sluts! There are some good girls that like me, you know, like you." I almost fell out of my chair laughing,"You....think.. I like......you....like that?"
Now he really does look offended,"Don't you? I mean, everybody likes this," he says gesturing to himself with his hands. The bell rings and I am going home because I have a free period next. As I stand up and grab my bag I whisper in his ear,"I am so not like other girls. Get used to it, pardner." I walked out without looking at him. As I hopped in my truck I tried to picture what his face should've looked like. But I couldn't.
