It's currently 3:47 in the morning and I can't sleep. I picked up my phone and called the first person in my contacts list.
"Hello." A groggy voice answered.
"Ahmad. Sorry for waking you. Um how fast can you get here?"
"It's fine. Um like ten minutes why?" He yawned.
"Please come."
"On my way."I went downstairs on the porch and waited for him to come. His car pulled up in my driveway.
"Are you okay? What's wrong?" He asked giving me a hug.
"I just need to talk to someone." We sat on the chairs outside.
"I'm sorry for waking you." I told him again.
"It's not a problem. Don't worry about it."
"You know, I bumped into Yahya a few days ago." He looked at him. "We talked a little bit and he asked about Sam. I told him that I was happy with him." I began tearing up. "But I..I miss him. I really, really miss him." My voice cracked and he rubbed my back. "He thinks I love Sam, I mean we're getting married for gods sake, I should love Sam. But I don't, he doesn't know that I still love.. Him. I tried to tell him that I..still love him at the market." I paused trying to hold back the tears. "But.. when I opened my mouth to tell him. Nothing came out." I couldn't stop myself from crying. "And everything is terrible."
"It's okay Haneen." He continued rubbing my back.
"No, it's not because I'm getting married to Sam and I still love Yahya."
"Come on. This isn't right. Let's go."Yahya's POV
"Yo. Yahya, wake up." I heard my brother say.
"What time is it?" I said without opening my eyes.
"Four thirty a.m."
"Ahmad, what the hell." I said annoyed. "Whatever you wanna tell me can wait until morning."
"No. It can't. Haneen is here."
That's all it took and I jumped out of bed.
"Where is she? I swear if this is and joke I'm gunna kill you.."
"No man, seriously. She's downstairs." I practically ran downstairs.
"Haneen?" She was sitting on the couch and when I called her name she stood up so she faced me.
"I love you. Oh god that just came right out. Uh. I love you." She laughed nervously. "I did it again." I looked at her. Not knowing what to say. I noticed a diamond ring on her finger, which nearly broke my heart.
"I love you, I do. And I have been trying so damn hard to not say it and just push it away but I love you. Every since we broke up I couldn't get you out of my mind. It's like you're stuck in me or something. Like a disease ya know? It's like I'm infected by Yahya and I just can't..." She paused. You can tell she was trying to hide her tears with a laugh.
"I can't think about anybody or anything. And I can't eat, I can't sleep." Her voice cracked and tears began forming in my eyes. "I can't breathe and I...I love you all the time. And what about my fiancé? It's not fair to him. He's a great guy and he's gorgeous and he's everything I ever looked for in a guy. And we're supposed to be getting married but it was never gunna work out because I'm over here telling you that I love you and have never gotten over you. I love you Yahya. I do."
"Haneen." I whispered. "You're getting married, I can't. I don't wanna be that guy."
"Unless you give me a reason not to get married to Sam." She came closer. "If you don't have any feelings left for me, I'll walk out that door and you won't have to worry about me. But if you do, I'll stay."
"Haneen. You're getting married." I whispered again.
"I should get going. Sorry I came." And with that she left.
"What the hell was that!" Ahmad hit me. "You fucking blew it. What's wrong with you!"
"She's getting married!" I yelled.
"She just told you that she still loves you and you let her walk away?"
"She's getting married. I can't."
"Yes you can! That's why she came here. So you can take her back!"
"Ahmad! Please. This isn't some cheesy romance movie where I realize that I made the wrong decision and chase after her. This is real life! And guess what? I can't do anything about it. She's getting married! I'm not gunna stop that. I can't. It's not right. If we were meant to be together, we would have been. It's too late. I'm too late. She's too late. She's getting married." I whispered the last part and went back to my room.Ahamd's POV
No, this isn't right. They belong together. I have to do something. I ran outside hoping to find Haneen. I seen her across the street walking.
"Haneen!" She didn't turn around. I ran to her and grabbed her hand to keep her from walking.
"Haneen, he messed up. Just give him another chance." I begged.
"I did. I came over her in the middle of the night, pouring my heart out to him. And all he could say was "you're getting married." I gave him another chance. He doesn't want it. And he's right. I'm getting married." She sorta yelled at me.
"But you two belong together."
She raised her eyebrows and shrugged. "Apparently not." And with that she walked away.
