Chapter 5: The party
4 hours later
“Hey, babe,” slurred a seductive voice in Lillie’s ear, while wrapping his arms around her waist. She felt chills go down her spine, but not the good type, as she turned around. Lillie turned her head and looked into the pale blue eyes of a stranger.
“Um, I don’t know you,” Lillie said, trying to wriggle out his his grasp. She had expected his arms to be loose and easy to get out of as it was obvious that he was drunk. Unfortunately, his grip was as strong as iron. Earlier, she had discovered that there was supervision - Tyler’s 24 year old brother, who had supplied the drinks.
“Sure ya do,” slurred the stranger. He proceeded to bring her closer to him and started kissing her neck. For once in her life, Lillie wished that she had worn heels as she brought her right foot up and kicked the stranger where it hurt the most - hard. He immediately let go of her and she moved out of the way quickly. He was groaning in pain and holding the place that she had kicked him.
“See you,” Lillie said, as she walked away into the crowd, trying to find one of her friends.
“Nice kick, princess,” said a voice from behind her. Lillie spun around. There, leaning against a wall, completely unconcerned, was Zach.
“I know it was,” Lillie answered, turning around again.
Zach made a derisive noise behind her, “And you call me cocky?”
“Yes,” Lillie said, in a forced polite voice, “What I said wasn’t cocky, I was simply stating the truth.” Zach didn’t say anything as he walked beside her. Lillie glanced at him suspiciously, “What are you doing?”
Zach looked at her eyebrow raised, “I’m walking with a friend.”
“Oh, we’re friends now?” Lillie scoffed.
“Yes,” he drawled, sarcastically, “we are the best of friends. Always were.” Lillie turned to glare at him. If looks could kill, she thought wistfully. While she had expected as much, it didn’t stop her from being annoyed at the tone he was using with her - like she was a baby.
“You know,” she said, matter-of-fact-ly, “sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.”
Zach through his hands up in exasperation, “How does that even relate to what we were talking about?!”
“Work it out,” Lillie said, spotting Alyssa, “Even you have a brain...as puny as it might be.” Zach glared at her as she walked away. He turned to the drinks table and poured himself a glass of coke. He turned around, leaning against the wall. He took a sip and as he lowered the drink from his mouth, he spotted Bianca, Alyssa, Dan and Lillie. They were laughing about something that Lillie had just said. Zach suspected that it was the boy that she had kicked. He walked over to them.
“So you just kicked him?” Alyssa asked, grinning. “Ouch.”
“I honestly don’t feel much sympathy for him,” Zach said as he walked up to his friends.
Dan tried to hide a smile, but failed, “You have no heart.”
“It was George Valteran,” Zach answered.
There was a long pause, then Bianca broke it by saying, “Well, suddenly the situation has got a whole lot funnier.”
“Agreed,” Alyssa said, now grinning so much that Lillie was worried that it might split her face.
Dan sniggered, “I can’t believe you did that!”
Lillie was confused. “Why?”“Because, little grasshopper,” Zach said, as Lillie ground her teeth in annoyance, “he is the Prime Minister’s nephew.”
