Chapter 6: The dare
The bell sounded in the middle of Lillie, Will, Zach and Alyssa’s song.
“Please keep going,” Mrs Watford said, then added as she saw Drew and her minions getting out of their seats, “No one is leaving until the song is finished either!” She looked pointedly at Drew, who sighed loudly and sat down. Drew got out her phone and started doing something on it. Lillie could feel herself getting angry. She had listened to Drew’s sorry excuse for a song, without getting distracted and here was Drew who couldn’t pay her the same curtesy.
“Ignore Drew,” Alyssa whispered as Will and Zach started playing their solo. Lillie nodded, her fingers ready for when it was her turn to play. Lillie played her chords and Alyssa joined in a bar* after her. Their song finished and the class clapped.
“That was really good!” Mrs Watford praised. “You four should enter the competition. You’d make a great band. Should I enter you?” Lillie looked at Zach and saw he was looking as horrified as her. They could barely spend 5 minutes together, let alone a whole year working as a band. True, she and Zach didn’t argue that much during the lesson while making the song, but they had barely spoken and Zach seemed tired to Lillie.
“Uh, I don’t know if that is a great idea, Miss,” Alyssa said. “I’m not sure if I want to do it, although I can’t speak for the others.”
“Yeah, besides, Zach, Harry, Liam, Dan and I were thinking of entering together,” said Will.
“Oh really?” Mrs Watford looked excited, “You four would also make a great band.”
“Thanks,” Will grinned.
“Okay, you can all leave now. No homework for today,” Mrs Watford said, dismissing the class. Lillie and Alyssa filed out of the classroom, with their friends behind them.
“Want to go check out the sports list, Lil?” Robyn asked her.
“Sure, I was planning to soon anyway. You coming, Alyssa?” Lillie asked.
Alyssa shook her head, “I need to go to my locker first. I’ll meet you there, though.”
“Ok see you.
Lillie and Robyn arrived at the sports noticeboard and quickly checked the list.
“Well done Robyn,” congratulated Jacinta, a girl in Lillie’s English class. “You too Lillie.”
“Uh, thanks?” Robyn raised an eyebrow.
Jacinta smiled, “You’ll find out soon.” Curious, Lillie moved forward to look at the list. First she looked at the netball list. She didn’t see her name on the list and felt disappointment fill her.
“Hey! We’re both on the netball and track teams together!” Robyn said excitedly.
“No we’re not,” Lillie answered, frowning, “I’m not on either list. Or the list for football. I didn’t get into anything.”
“Yes you did! Look!” Robyn pointed to a list away from all the other lists. “You’re the captain for track and co-captain for netball and football. That’s amazing! Well done!”
“Thanks,” Lillie smiled. “I was really worried for a second there.”
“I never doubted that you wouldn’t get in. I saw all your tryouts. You are so good at sport.”
“So are you. What did you get into? Everything?” Lillie had seen Robyn play sports and knew that she was one of the best sportswomen out there, even better than Lillie.
