Chapter 10: Merry Christmas

Unknown to Zach, Lillie was having similar thoughts to him. She flopped down on her bed, sighing. When she and her friends had come back from their trip, it had been dinner time. Lillie ate a quick and uncomfortable meal with Zach sitting next to her. He had kept giving her sideways glances which made her feel very distracted. Neither of them had spoken much, both engrossed in their own thoughts. After she had finished, Lillie went straight to her dorm, claiming that she was tired.

She thought about the moment in Vêtements, de nourriture et plus with Zach. If Will hadn’t interrupted, would they have kissed? Lillie ran the idea through her head a few more times, before dismissing it. Zach didn’t like her like that. He made that clear every time he spoke to her. But then...he hadn’t moved either. His grey eyes weren’t as cold as usual and he didn’t have an unwelcome expression on his face. In fact, when he had looked at her, he seemed almost...in awe. Shaking her head, Lillie mentally hit herself. That would never happen. He never seemed to care for anyone.

The next day, Sunday, was a lazy day for Lillie. She kicked Robyn and Elena out of their dorm and proceeded to wrap her presents. As she was wrapping, it dawned on Lillie that the two week Christmas holidays were there. Most people were staying at school as they were having a school Christmas dance. All of Lillie’s friends were staying.

Lillie had bought Robyn a new tennis racquet, knowing that her old one was breaking. For Elena, she had asked her parents to sign a picture of the two of them together and a ticket to a fashion show. Will was getting a new pair of football boots. Liam, a book on pranking, complete with all the materials needed to complete these pranks. For Bianca, Lillie asked her mum for a ticket to a fashion show and Harry was about to receive the WeSing Wii game. Dan wanted tennis shoes, so Lillie bought him some and for Alyssa, she had bought the Amazing Spiderman, the Avengers and the Wolverine DVD’s for her. Zach was probably the most difficult person to buy for. For one, Lillie barely knew him and whenever they did speak, it was mainly an argument. As she was looking for a present, she remembered the English lesson when she had seen him reading Alex Rider. So Lillie had bought Zach the entire series.

When she was finished wrapping presents, Lillie joined Robyn, Will and Zach for a 2 on 2 football match. It was girls against boys and right now, the scores were tied. 10 minutes later, the result was the same.

“All right,” Robyn panted, “Next goal wins.”

“Already tired?” Zach mocked.

“Never,” Robyn answered grinning and kicking the ball to Lillie, catching both boys by surprise. She dribbled the ball closer to the goal and kicked it hard. Both Zach and Will were too far to stop her and the ball flew into the net.

“We win,” Lillie declared, grinning. Robyn ran up to her and they high-fived.

“Girl Power!” Robyn said, then she looked at the boys, “Well? Are you going to be good losers?”

“Fine,” Will groaned, “Well done.”

“Thank you,” Robyn replied, sweetly.

“You still suck though. It was a lucky shot,” Zach said.

“Excuse me?” Lillie retorted. “That was not a lucky shot! It was pure skill!”

Zach snorted. “Sure, sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.”

“You are so infuriating,” Lillie snapped.

“I know I am, but what are you?”

“What?” Robyn asked, “How does that even relate?” Will shrugged. Zach gave a non-committal grunt. Lillie made an ‘I don’t know’ face at Robyn, while half-shrugging. Robyn just sighed.
