The Dark Side Chapter 7

~*~

I knocked lightly on the front door. It was a very large house where I stood at. The door was crystal clear glass. It had a wood frame around the glass. It was one of those high class doors.

I waited a few seconds till I knocked again. I rocked back and forth on my heels as I waited patiently. I sighed as I rung the door bell this time.

I heard a few footsteps till a lady in her mid thirties appeared. She had shoulder length brown hair and blue eyes. She was a little taller than me by a few inches.

"Hello Annabelle," she gave me a sweet smile. "Hello Mrs. Johnson," I said. "May I come in?" I asked. Her smile dropped as she looked behind her than back at me.

"I don't know if that would be appropriate at this time," she hesitantly said. "Listen I just need to talk to Ashlyn," I pleaded. "She is busy right now doing homework," she said.

"Homework?" I chuckled in disbelief. Her mum looked at me a little annoyed. "Yes homework. Now maybe you should come back later," she said as she slowly closed the door. "Goodbye Annabelle," she said before closing the door with a slam.

I jumped at the loud sound. I blinked a few times in amazement. I shook my head as I jogged down the porch steps and made my way to the back yard. I climbed over the fence; making sure my skirt doesn't get caught and landed on my feet.

I dusted myself off then walked over to her window. I picked up a few rocks and started tossing them at her balcony window. Few minutes later, she walked out annoyed.

"What is it Annabelle?" She asked. "What's your deal? All I came by is to see how you are doing," I frowned at her sudden attitude. She rolled her eyes as she shook her head.

"How was dinner?" She sarcastically said. "Dinner? In fact it went amazing," I said. "Oh really?" She asked in disbelief. "Yes. My parents love Harry and think he is such an amazing guy. Maybe you should be more like him," I yelled.

"Good to know I'll keep that in mind," she sarcastically said. I groaned and threw my head back. "Your such a. Such a," I began to say. "Such a what Annabelle? Say it," she snapped.

"Such a dog," I frustratedly said. We were both quiet as we looked back at each other. We blinked our eyes a few times then a giggle escaped our lips and soon we were in fits of laughter.

"A dog?" She laughed. "It was the best I can think off," I shook my head as I laughed. "Gosh you really can't curse," she chuckled. "It's not right for a lady to swear," I defended.

"Come up you dog," she teased. I smiled before jogging to the side of her house and walked up the spiral staircase that led to her balcony.

I walked through her sliding glass door and sat down on her bed; next to her. We sat in silence before engulfing each other in a hug. "I'm so sorry," she apologized.

"Why are you sorry? I should of just ignored him," I said. "No. No you shouldn't have. He is literally in love with you and I can't come in between love," she said. "Ashlyn he isn't in love with me," I chuckled as we pulled back.

She raised one of her eyebrow in astonishment. "Gosh little one. You are blind," she laughed. "I'm serious he isn't in love with me," I laughed. "Mr. Bad Boy is defiantly in love with you," she said.

"He isn't in love. He is just.. protective," I said lost for words. She shook her head laughing. "Ok he is protective and in love," she said. A smile formed as I pushed her away lightly. "Ok enough of this love stuff," I said as I stood up and walked to her book shelf.

I skimmed through the shelves till my finger landed on a photo album. I pulled it out to look at the cover. "You kept this?" I asked amazed. "Of course. It's our memory album we made when we were nine," she said.

I smiled and turned around to face her. "Let us look through it shall we?" I giggled. I ran and jumped on her bed. We laid at the foot of her bed on our stomachs.

I flipped open the cover to appear a picture of us at the park nearby her old house. "I remember this photo," she smiled. "We were so young and innocent. Well you still are but not for long with Mr. Bad Boy," she winked. I blushed and turned the next picture.

She threw her head back in laughter as she looked at the photo of us covered in cake batter. "Oh my. I remember this for a school project," I laughed. "Your mum was mad at us for making a mess in her kitchen," she said.

"Your mum is so different from mine," I said as I looked down and away from the photo album. "My mum is so strict along with my father. I wish they were like your mum. Yeah I love my parents but they could lighten up a little," I said.

"Annabelle my mum may seem like the carefree mum and not have a single care in the world but at least you have a complete family," she said. I looked up at her to see she started crying.

I pulled her in a hug as I comforted her. "Don't cry," I whispered. "It's hard not too," she said. "He is gone," she cried silently. "He is not. He still is in your memories and heart," I said.

"Your father wants you to be happy and not mourn over him. So do what your father would want you to do," I said. She nodded and hugged me tighter. She hates talking about her father. Her father had died three years ago with lung cancer. It was a tragedy and an awful memory.

"Who knew Ashlyn would cry," I tried to lighten the mood. She laughed a little as a smile formed.

"Don't think about it anymore ok? You got me," I said. "Your so nice. I don't know how you can still be around me with all the things I've done and put you through," she said. "Hey your my best friend. Of course I'll stick by your side," I said. "Even if you are such a dog," I joked.

She smiled as she hugged me back and whispered, "Thank you." I nodded my head before pulling back. "Now my parents are probably wondering where I am. Probably worried that I might be out with Harry," I shook my head.

"I'm guessing dinner didn't go well," she chuckled. "You guess correctly," I smiled. "What happened?" She asked. "Let's just say there was a bunch of yelling and awkward silences," I said not going into the details.

"Least my mum didn't yell. She was just silent," I shrugged. "I would pay to see everything," she laughed. Her eyes were squeezed shut as she laughed.

"Yeah and witness a different side of Harry? No I wouldn't think so," I said. "How many sides does this guy have?" She asked. I shrugged and said, "Many I guess."

"Anyways I need to head out. Tell your mum we are good for me?" I said. "I will," she smiled as she walked me out to her balcony. "Thank you," I said. I walked down the spiral staircase.

"See you at school," I waved. I climbed back over the fence and made my way down her neighborhood street with my hands in my jacket pockets. It was a little chilly out this morning.

I heard a motorcycle roar from behind me and pull up next to me. I didn't have to look to know who it is. I heard the engine shut off and footsteps come from behind me.

I turned around to be faced with those familiar green eyes. He wasn't smiling neither did he have his signature smirk. He had on a frown as he stood in front of me.

"Where were you?" He asked. "Hello to you too," I said. He examined my arms and face. "Are you ok?" He asked. I pushed his hand gently away from my cheek.

"I'm fine Harry. Why wouldn't I be?" I smiled. He looked back in my eyes. His eyes filled with worried before they filled with anger. "Why wouldn't you be? You were with Ashlyn. You can't keep being around her Annabelle. She is not what you think. Stay away from her," he demanded.

I was taken by surprise from this. Sure Harry can be a little demanding but I wasn't expecting him to come straight forward about it especially with my childhood friend.

I shook my head as I scoffed before turning on my heels and started walking away. I held onto my shoulder strap as I walked along this street.

I heard Harry's motorcycle roar to life and him slowly driving next to me. "Annabelle please get on the bike," he pleaded. I continued to ignore his pleads as I walked.

"Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. All I am trying to do is protect you," he sighed. "Annabelle?" He called my name. He stopped his bike and got off.

He walked around his motorcycle before he began walking next to me. "Annabelle please at least get back on so I can take you to school," he begged for me to answer but all I did was look him in the eye and turn my head.

He took ahold of my hand; I pulled back my hand in surprise. His eyes shown hurt and confusion. "Annabelle. Please?" He begged. "It will make me feel better if I drove you to school," he said.

I looked from his eyes down to his hands then back up. He leaned forward as his caressed touch soothed me. I nodded as he let a smile fall in his lips. "Thank you," he whispered.

I let him guide me to his motorcycle. I wrapped my arms around his waist as he twisted the key in and started the bike. "Hold tight babe. This is going to be a bumping ride," he sent me a wink. One second he is this sweet, caring guy then he is back to his dark, cheeky self.

We took off down the quiet, foggy road of the neighborhood. The cool air sent shivers up my skin but the more I thought of it, the more I thought it wasn't just the air. It felt as if someone was watching us the whole time.
