Chapter 1
"Stupid Rain"
I woke up to the sound of rain pouring down on my roof. "Great," I mumbled as I got up from my after school nap and ready for my night. It was a Friday and I had a football game to attend when all I really wanted to do was curl up on the couch and eat ice cream. I knew any second my phone would be ringing and my best friend Eve would be pissed that i was just now getting up. Oh well. As if on cue, my phone started ringing so I answered it.
"Hello?"
"Rayne! Were you sleeping just now?" she belted into my sensitive eardrum.
"No?"
"Ughh you drive me crazy! Get your ass up, get dressed, and get your butt to my house. There's someone I want you to meet tonight." I could hear the smile in her voice as she hung up the phone.
I groaned and already dressed, went downstairs to the kitchen which was empty. As usual. My house was huge and I mean like, humungous. My dad was some sort of scientist and was never home and with just my mom and me in this big old house we rarely saw eachother. It's not that I don't miss my parents but they just always seem to grate on my nerves whenever we get around eachother for an extended period of time. I chuckled to myself as I remembered the last time dad came home and tried to have a "family game night". I snorted out loud at the memory of my mother flipping over the monopoly board and storming out of the room. Good times. I ran out to my blue bug and started her up. I was pissed that Eve was depriving me of frozen treats to go to a stupid football game.
It was our senior year of highschool and me and Eve had been best friends ever since she moved here my sophomore year. I have a weakness for new kids and we became fast friends. I liked to stick to her and a couple of select people but she was pretty popular. I didn't like to bother with the other kids at my school because they were so childish and I just wanted to get highschool over with.
I pulled up to Eve's amd before I could honk the horn her blonde head popped out of the door and she put up one finger signaling me to hold on. One thing that everyone knows about me is that I am not a very patient person. Eve ran out into the rain and just as she reached my car I locked the door.
"Rayne! Unlock the door! My hair!"
I didnt see how it mattered seeing as the game was outside anyways. So I just pretended I forgot where the unlock button was and hesitated a moment before pressing it. As he passenger door opened I turned to her with a devilish smile on my face but the look on hers was priceless. That was it, I busted up laughing at the mascara running down her face and her now wet hair sticking to her lip gloss. She just glared at me as she shook out her hair and got my car soaked.
"Hey! Hahaha come on, don't take it out on the car!" I said as I continued to crack up.
"Well somebody shouldn't have left their poor defensless bestfriend in the rain to drown!" she said as she pulled down the mirror to see just what was so funny. As soon as she caught a glance, she couldn't hold it in either n we bagged up together before she gestured for me to get on the road.
It had almost slipped my mind when I remembered what she had told me on the phone. "So who is this person you want me to meet? I've lived in this small town my whole life I'm pretty sure I know everyone."
Very nonchalantly she said, "Not this person."
I just raised an eyebrow at her skeptically as I pulled into the parking lot of our highschool. I decided to grill her more once we got our seat. The rain had let up some so I wasn't too afraid to keep y hood down as we ran to get our tickets. I let my long, dark brown waves down so that they just barely skimmed my butt. After we got our seat high up in the bleachers and layed towels down to sit on, I turned to find Eve skimming the crowd. Curiousity got the best of me so I asked, "Who is this person that you're looking for?"
"Hmm. New kid. Apparently he's completely gorgeous," she said without breaking her concentration.
"Well you have fun playing where's waldo, I on the other hand, am going to get a hotdog. Want one?"
"Yea yea, sure sure." she mumbled.
I just shook my head and as I was walking down the bleachers I, damn my clumsiness, slipped on the wet metal stairs. As soon as my foot came out from under me I knew I was going down. Hard. And I was almost positive it was going to hurt like hell. I squeezed my eyes shut for the impact that never came. I was aware the I was in the arms of someone. Someone big. Just as I decided it was safe for me to open my eyes the sun burst through the clouds. Casting a shodow over the face I was now looking up at. All I registered were two very bright green eyes, locked onto mine. I was suddenly very aware of his arms around me and I felt my cheeks burning with embarrassment. I wanted to move but I was frozen in place. Like if I looked away my eyes would rip out of my head. just then I realized that he had also not moved and neither had the sun. That was until Eve snatched me up out of his arms and turned me to face her, yelling at me about something I wasn't quite paying attention to. In a daze, I turned around to look for my savior but was met with nothing.
He completely disappeared. Weird.
"... staring at eachother like some star crosed lovers! What the hell has gotten into you?" I caught the end of her rant.
"Wht the hell is wrong with me? What the hell is wrong with you? Why are you yelling at me?" I questioned. Still not fully interested in her answers.
"Cuz it seems to me like you found the new guy before me, and I totally called dibs and you totally just raped him with your eyes!" she shrieked.
"Oh really? I wasn't aware we still called dibs. Plus you've never even spoken to the guy how can you be so possesive?" I asked, anger creeping into my voice.
"I'm sorry." she huffed. "Did you see how beautiful he was?" she asked. But when I though about it, no actually, I hadnt seen his face. Only those piercing, excruciatingly green eyes.
"Nah. the sun was behind his head I couldn't see a thing."
"Well that's a damn shame cuz that man is a gift from God. My gift," she added with a pointed look. There was a teasing glint in her eyes that told me she wasn't really mad and I was relieved.
Relieved because I had every intention on seeing his face. Maybe even more that that if I had things my way.
