Chapter 8

"Highschool Woes"

"UGGGHHHHH! I friggin hate Mondays!!!!!!"

"Oh stop complaining," Eve told me.

I just glared at her before I continued to the cafeteria. The first half of the day had been, as usual, uneventful. There was only three months left of my senior year and I was counting down the days. Unlike everyone else, I wasn't sad to leave at all. Well... maybe a little, I admitted to myself. Mostly I would miss a reason to get up and get dressed everyday.

Don't get me wrong, highschool was pretty entertaining and has taught me a lot both educationally, and socially. I feel like if I was home schooled I would be like, a socially awkward hermit or something. This way, I know how to deal with people of all sorts. Good to know.

What I didn't know how to deal with was God-like men that moved into my neighborhood and set my soul on fire everytime the look at me and electrocute me everytime they touch me. If we ever kissed I'd probably convulse into a seizure. Then drop dead. And that would be that.

I got my lunch and sat down at my usual table, Eve taking her spot next to me. We have fourth period together right around the corner so we were usually among the first kids in the cafeteria.

"So are you going to tell me who dracula is? Or am I going to have to strangle it out of you?" I asked without even looking up from my tray.

"Ha ha. So funny. And no, I'm not going to tell you anything because you are going to make fun of me," she said, also not looking up from her tray.

"Did you guys do it?" I asked innocently.

She finally looked at me, "Rayne! Ohmigod shut up! No, of course not!" she whispered loudly, her eyes bulging out at me while I wagged my eyebrows and grinned evilly.

"Riiiiight riiiiight," I laughed.

"Ugh! You are so embarrassing, I don't even know why I'm friends with a nut job like you," she said shaking her head.

I faked an appalled expression, holding my hand to my heart and she laughed.

"I'll have you know that I have a lot of great qualities!" I scoffed.

"Oh yeah? Like what? Being able to annoy without shame? Charming."

"Hey! I am charming!" I protested.

She turned to me and grinned, ".... maybe a little."

"That's what I thought! Ha! Now eat your food. Sooner or later I'm going to find out who did that to your neck."

"Good luck," she said with a smirk. Again bringing my thoughts back to Xander and his stupid, annoying smirk. He was charming too, but in an asshole kind of way. His devilishly good looks made me want to smack that smirk right off his face. He looked so much better when he smiled. Ugh here we go. If I keeped going on like this I'd be a full blown stalker by the end of the week...

"EARTH TO RAYNE!!" Eve slapped me in the back and I snapped out of it.

"Owww! Shit! Did you have to hit me so hard?" I asked, mad I couldn't rub the spot she hit because it was on my back.

"The bell rang and you're just sitting there staring off into space, you haven't even finished your food," she said looking concerned.

"Oh uh, sorry about that," I said, standing up to throw my trash away. Wondering where everyone else was, it usually wasn't just the two of us.

"I hope you weren't thinking about you-know-who," she threw me a sideways glance and pursed her lips.

"Umm, Voldemort?" I asked, proud of my comeback and chuckling to myself.
