Chapter 7

"Bold? I think not."

I got to the spot where the waves were curling without looking behind me. I didn't want to seem to desperate if he caught me looking. I also was afraid I wouldn't be able to look away then drown when a wave crashed on my head.

A big wave came and I dived under it just in time. When I came up I decided it was finally safe to look back.

Nothing.

Did he leave?

No his surfboard was still stuck in the sand. I frowned. The water was up to my shoulders and I refused to go past where my feet couldn't touch, afraid of evil sea creatures just waiting to eat me.

The water here wasn't exactly dirty but it wasn't like, Cancun water or anyhting so I couldn't make out anything to far below the surface. I was about to give up when I felt something brush past my legs.

Needless to say, I freaked out. It was too warm to be sea weed! I started frantically trying to wade back to the surface before I heard a splash and laughter. Laughter so beautiful it could only be one person.

I turned to face him before I heard, "Rayne! Look out!" and as soon as I turned around sure enough, a huge wave was curling right over my head. I tried to dive under it but instead got caught in the current that was wrapping furiously around me. It was carrying me towards the shore, dragging me against the sand and rocks repeatedly.

When I finally stood up I spewed water out of my mouth and nose, choking and felt my eyes water in pain and embarrassment.

"Are you okay?"

I was still choking and it looked like he wanted to reach for me, but retracted his hand almost instantly. I finally straightened up and pushed my hair out of my face, forcing back the tears burning my eyes. I was not going to cry like a baby. I could feel the sand matted in my hair and groaned, slapping my hands to my face to cover the raging blush that I was sure was there.

"I'm fine," I managed to spit out, along with some sand. I couldn't bring myself to even look at him so I started wading back up to the beach. I heard splashing and knew he was following.

The water brushed over my shin and a stinging sensation shot up the side of my leg from ankle to knee. I looked down as I reached to sand and saw a huge red rash from the sand and rocks. It had little cuts all over and they were bleeding slighlty. "SHIT!" I yelled to nobody in particular.

I looked behind me to see that Xander was still following closely behind me... smirking.

"Whats so funny? I just almost died!," I yelled, waving my arms in the air.

He frowned, "You did not. I would have saved you."

I snorted "Yea, okay. Says the guy who laughs at my pain."

"I saved you at the party didn't I?" he asked, looking rather happy with himself.

"I would've been okay by myself," I said, not entirely sure if that was true.

"Well fine, next time you need help I won't help you," he said, crossing his arms over his chest and sticking his nose in the air. Obviously trying to tease.

"This IS the next time and you DIDN'T hep me!" I said, frustrated. I reached my stuff and grabbed a bottled water out of my bag. I glanced up and Xander whos still had his arms crossed... forcing his biceps to bulge.... I shook my head. He was a jerk.
