------after school tho-----
--roar.--
Kate watched the television, her eyes slowly landing on her brother. The pale vampire was quietly sitting on the brown-leather couch. Then she shot her gaze to her frail mother, the short woman cooking in the kitchen, her long hazel hair just overlapping her breasts. The pre-teen huffed, running her fingers across the stitches of the couch before looking back at Jake. ''Hey Jake-the-straight, thought you were gonna hang with Alex.'' He glanced over at her, briefly shrugging. ''Decided not too, didn't feel like it.'' ''Then what are you going to do?'' Jake shrugged again. ''I don't know, maybe stay here. Maybe go out with Steel.'' Kate smirked lightly. ''Not in that way, you asshole.'' Jake quickly spat, glaring down at her from the couch. She shifted herself onto a more comfortable position on the tan carpet. ''That's what you say.'' Jakes phone vibrated, exploding with texts from Steel, he picked up the silver-cased iPhone, checking the texts silently. While Kate kept her eyes on the television, humming to herself.
''Breaking news!'' The television suddenly hollered.
Jake's attention flipped from his phone to the television, looking at the tall woman reporter. Her eyes frantic as she stood in front of the camera. ''Breaking news! There's been a shooting at Doberman Street, five people dead, four injured.'' Kate narrowed her eyes. ''Doberman Street.. Isn't that where Dawn lives?''
''Oh sweet jesus--''
Kate stared blankly, as if recollecting her thoughts. Then shot up and put her hands in the air. ''I'm callin' Dawn.'' She declared, running up the stairs. Jake was almost urged to follow, but he refused and nervously slid back into the couch. Kate slammed open the room door and grabbed her cellphone. Typing in Dawn's phone number at rapid speed. The phone buzzed until a voice answered.
''This is Pepe, what do you want?''
''OH THANK LUCIFER YOU'RE ALIVE.''
''Don't shout.''
Kate sighed in relief, Dawn seeming perfectly confused as usual. ''What?'' Kate recapped. ''Shooting, your street.''
''I live at Pines Road.''
''Ooooohh...''
''Yeah.'' Dawn seemed annoyed.
Kate kept muttering in relief, running down the stairs. ''I HAVE A BAD MEMORY.'' She announced. Jake huffing in relief. Dawn hung up, Kate guessed she hated being yelled at through a phone. She hopped right back onto the couch. Jake muttering beside her.
Yeesh.
And then it was Saturday,
Kate, really, loved, Saturday.
It was like Friday but there wasn't any school.
Great.
She had invited Steel and Jackson to come over (basically by shouting 'COME TO MY HOUSE OR DIE'), so they showed up at the door. Steel looking like a nervous wreck while Jackson just looked as cheerful as usual. Kate gave a bored glance at Steel and invited them in. Steel giving quick glances at Jake every few seconds. She snorted and dragged him along by his shirt front. Jackson innocently following behind. She hadn't notice Jackson'd been wearing a crop-top till now. It was a pale white shirt that read 'Screw it all I have snacks' . She casually dragged Steel up the stairs. And into her room, Jackson shutting the door for her. ''Ok, stop staring at my Bro-Bro and let us do our sin-dig things!'' Kate grunted. Steel slouched over in protest. Mumbling quietly. Jackson just sat there innocently, adjusting his golden-brimmed belt. She spun around on her computer chair, before hearing Steel's cracked voice speak.
''Does Jake hate me?''
Kate shrugged.
''I don't think he hates you!'' Jackson said supportively.
Steel slouched over more. ''It feels like he does...just...how he talks to me..''
''If he does, he's dead to me.'' Her voice was accidently grim.
Steel became flushed, rubbing his temples anxiously. Kate guessed she wasn't the best person for love advice. She was pretty grim herself. She felt sorry for Steel, he had worked so hard to keep this from Jake all those years. And now Jake dating Ally must have made his life a wreck. Kate had already noticed the dark circles under his dark blue eyes. ''Hey. No matter what Jake thinks of you, you've still got us.'' She softened her voice into a somewhat supportive tone. Steel's frown shifted into a grin. ''Thanks.'' Jackson patted his back. '
''So what's on the sin-udle?''
