"Have you seen Daryl?" you asked a bored looking Carl Grimes, who was sitting at the last steps of the stairs.

He gave you a knowing look and smiled. "Why?"

You rolled your eyes at this "None of your business kiddo, where is he?"

"He went with dad and Glenn on a run." looks like they won't be inviting me on runs anytime soon...

"Are you and Daryl a...thing?" Carl asked with a small teasing smile.

You gave out a chuckle and took his hat. You never have gotten to know the boy.

"Hey!" he reacted by reaching out, but you placed the hat on top of your head. You stuck out your tongue childishly and sat beside him.

"How long have you guys been here?" you completely ignored his question.

"Are you ignoring my question?" his eyes narrowed in suspicion.

You laughed at this and asked another question "What question?"

He huffed out breath of annoyance but answered anyway "I don't know... Maybe half a year? Or a year? I don't keep track of time anymore..."

You nodded in agreement. "Me neither."

"I heard Glenn last night... Well, everyone did. He sounded really angry." the boy blurted out.

"Is your dad mad at me too?" you said after a while of silence.

"...well I don't think anyone's really mad at you... They just care."

Just then Rick, Daryl, Glenn and a few more people piled inside. You stood up and placed Carl's hat on top of his head (rather crookedly) and he glared playfully. You slowly walked over to them and hesitantly took steps towards Daryl.

"Daryl... Can-" He went straight past you not even a glance your way.

You stood there like an idiot for a few seconds until you heard Glenn. "Hey," he said and pulled you into a hug "just give him some time..." you nodded and pulled away. Glenn gave you a pat in the back and went to Maggie, while you walked back to Carl.

"He must really care for me huh, Carl? Ignoring me and crap." you said with a groan.

"He does. Everyone can see that but you two, to be honest." Carl said as he let out a chuckle of amusement.

What??

"Carl. Let's check the pigs, c'mon." Rick interrupted as you were about to ask what the boy meant. Carl stood up and started for his father, then Rick gave you a nod and looked up to the second floor cells. Following his gaze, you instantly understood what he meant. I guess I won't be giving him 'time'.

Once Rick and Carl had disappeared through the doorway, you climbed up the stairs and went to Daryl's cell. You tried to peak but he was already looking straight at you, an arrow twirling in his fingers.

"...I...uh" you stammered looking down and played with your hands. Thinking of an excuse, and failing, you blurted out the question you asked Carl earlier and finally met his eyes, "You still mad?"

    He just stared at me for whole 2 minutes or so, which made me feel awkward. I gave out a sigh, peeling my eyes from the staring contest and started to turn around.

Please stop me. Tell me not to go. C'mon.

    I started chanting in my mind as I very slowly turned to walk away.

"No."

What.

"What?" I turned back to meet his serious eyes.

"...I'm not mad at ye."

It took me a few seconds to process, but when I did, I couldn't stop the grin that made its way to my lips.

"Oh! Cool... Yeah. uh. great...uhh... Ill go back to my cell and... Yeah." I started to blabber like an idiot.

I was already half way back to my cell when I turned back and peaked inside his cell again.

"Sorry... And thank you for trying to protect my clumsy ass" I said and went back to my cell, finally being able to sleep without a weight on my chest.

DARYL

      "Sorry... And thank you for trying to protect my clumsy ass"
Y/N said while peaking into my room and suddenly disappearing again.

I couldn't help but smile from hearing her words. I just couldn't help but forgive her. Something 'bout her really makes me feel... At peace.
