Chapter 40

“What do you mean, the CIA is in lockdown?” I asked, my voice rising with every note.

“It’s the director,” silence on the other line. “He was killed.” Liyana said with a tinge of sadness in her voice.

I leaned back against the wall, breaching the backyard, eyes wandering up to the italian sky that’s slowly bleaching as the day came to a close.

“They are declaring a complete shut down of the facility, until the breach is patch up. Till then…”

“Security will become a vulnerability.” I finished for her, fingers squezzing the bridge of my nose.

“Precisely,” she breathed.

The demons are advancing, faster than anticipated. Whoever ordered the shut down could be the traitor himself. It is happening, their plans will be carried out, war will be waged once again and we will be reinstated on top of the foodchain, with a hefty price in tow. Reality is, we will not rule, they will, its in their nature to secretly overthrow the one on top.

Vampires have long been enslaved by their more deceptive and cruel side, even though we refuse to live our lives as the villanous beings we are but it’s a known fact that it overpowers us most of the time. Demons were created from that side of us by our ancestors. It is this very essence that will destroy the world as we know it.

As my eyes pierced the cold night sky, I saw movement in the corner. Moments later, Gabriel was beside me, breathing in the damp night air.

“Can you smell it?” he suddenly asked.

“What?”

“Eminent chaos,” he answered simply.

“So what do we suppose we do about this?” I asked him.

Light as my tone may be, he took the question seriously, swirling his glass of red wine as his eyes darted back and forth randomly. He was thinking, formulating something in his head. This was to be with his kind, protectors of the royal family, trained from birth to serve and protect. Each was a diligent being with skills honned, far beyond the average vampire to carry out their duty with scary accuracy.

And I can see that face on Gabriel right now. The ability to be aware of his surroundings while concentrating on his thoughts. Parallel computing as the humans call it with their computers and processors.

He was about to say something, the words tetering on the edge of his tongue when the communicator shrilled in my pocket. In a whip, I gathered it in my hand and pressed answer, which immediately shot a hologram of Emma, projected, life size.

“Dustin?” her voice chimed through the speakers, her voice filled with panic.

My body quickly tensed up, feeling that something is very wrong on the other side. Her hologram was stark, blurred as it kept up with Emma’s moving figure.

“What’s happening, Emma?” I asked

She was still moving, face hidden from the lens, on her body showed how rapidly fast her motion was. I could hear someone shout from the background, the noise cancellation technology drowning it out.
