In the evening of the same day, Stevie was headed to Lindsey's, eager to see him. Even if breaking up with Joe was fairly easy, it was still telling someone you didn't want to be with them anymore and it wasn't all that pleasant. All Stevie longed for now was Lindsey's arms around her.
Lindsey wasn't sure what state Stevie would be in once she arrived, so he was prepared. He lit up candles in the bedroom, at first wanting to maybe scatter rose petals on the floor and on the bed, then deciding to put a huge bouquet on the nightstand instead. He also brought his record player from the living room and a couple of albums he knew Stevie loved. Looking at his own effort, Lindsey realized it. He had never gone to such lengths to make any other woman feel this comfortable and taken care of, loved. Loved. Yes, he was in love.
Anxiously waiting, Lindsey opened a bottle of wine and took two glasses, carrying them upstairs as well. Only that midway there, the front door opened and in came Stevie, her eyebrow raised.
"What's that?"
"Um, wine. Yeah, this is wine."
Letting out a nervous chuckle, Stevie closed the door behind and stepped further into the house, looking at Lindsey. "And two glasses? You've got someone in the bedroom?" Masking her worry that it was actually true, she tried to sound funny.
"Not yet." Lindsey smirked. "You just caught me, I was getting ready to see you." Putting what he had in his hand down on the floor, he climbed the stairs back and enveloped Stevie in his arms. "How was it?"
"It was okay, really. Joe took it well, I guess we both were feeling the same." Stepping back, Stevie took off her boots and put her handbag away. "He's leaving again, so I have some time to move out. Although, I don't want to drag it out, so... I won't be coming with you for now."
"Oh." Genuinely saddened, Lindsey asked. "But you are coming in some time, right?"
Nodding, Stevie replied. "Yeah, of course I am." Smiling at him, she took Lindsey's hand that he was holding out for her. "So, what do you mean you were getting ready to see me?"
Showing her to take the glasses, Lindsey took the bottle himself and led them upstairs. "I wasn't sure if you were going to be upset or not. I... I wanted to make you feel better when you get here." Letting go of her hand, he pushed the bedroom door open and let her go in first.
"Oh, Linds..." Stevie nearly gasped, turning to face him. "You shouldn't have."
"It's nothing, come on; flowers and candles." Shrugging his shoulders, Lindsey took the wine glasses from Stevie and filled them up, handing one to her.
"Well, it's something to me, because nobody has ever done this to me." Standing up on her tiptoes, she kissed him briefly and sat down on the bed, while Lindsey went to put one of the records on.
In a moment, Stuck on You by Lionel Richie started playing, Lindsey having skipped through the first couple of songs, he, for some reason, remained standing in the same spot as the song played on, listening to the words.
I'm stuck on you
I've got this feeling down
Deep in my soul
That I just can't loseTaking a deep breath, Lindsey mustered up the courage inside him... "I love you."
"You what?" Stevie asked, not sure if she heard correctly.
Turning around, now looking her in the eyes, Lindsey repeated. "I love you. I think I fell in love with you the moment I laid my eyes on you, I just... you know it's not easy for me to open up. I feel as if me saying something out loud makes it real, that I can't change it or take it back anymore. And quite frankly, it scares me."
"I don't want you to take it back." Stevie said smiling, putting her wine away, as she stood up and approached him, placing her hands on his chest, his locking on the small of her back. "I love you, too. Just like you, I was afraid to voice it, because it would destroy me if you didn't feel the same."
Sighing in relief, Lindsey hugged her closer. "Those words coming from you is music to my ears." Pressing a kiss to her temple, he pulled back a little, dipping his head lower to capture her lips, Stevie's arms going up around his neck.
Walking to the bed with Stevie in his arms, Lindsey stopped when the back of her knees hit it, also breaking the kiss, placing his hands on her shoulders and gently pushing her to fall on her back. There was no resistance on Stevie's part, when he slowly undressed her, admired her and began to love on her. She felt like she was in heaven, with his hands and mouth on her, her senses heightened from the emotional moment they shared.
On a different occasion, Stevie would let him continue, she would allow him to do whatever he pleased with her, but right now all she wanted was him. Tugging on his hair (not too hard), she pulled him up higher, kissing his lips, flipping them over at the same time. It was her turn to undress him fully, before she straddled him.
Lindsey closed his eyes at the feeling of being joined with her as one. She moved slowly and somewhat gracefully, with her head cocked back, her teeth sinking into her bottom lip, eyebrows slightly creased.
Needless to say, they didn't last very long, but it wasn't about that. They weren't having sex to get off, they were making love to show each other what was in their hearts, when words weren't enough.
They were in a bliss, lying side by side. They didn't have to talk to fill the silence, they were comfortable with each other the way they were at the moment. Tilting her chin up, Stevie smiled to herself, seeing Lindsey's eyes closed, thinking he had fallen asleep. But he hadn't yet, feeling her stare, he tightened his grip on her and pressed a kiss to her hair.
