We'll figure it out

Running a hand through his messed up curls, Lindsey sighed heavily, finally beginning to feel exhausted after hours spent at the hospital, he was still wearing his wedding suit. Stevie gave birth to a baby boy, Evan Buckingham, who neither of them got to hold, not even for a minute, before he was taken to the NICU, because he was born a few weeks early.

Stevie cried and cried until she couldn't do it anymore. She was convinced something would be wrong with their baby, because they received no word about him yet. While Lindsey couldn't be sure, he kept telling her otherwise, that he knew, felt their baby boy was alright. Eventually, he managed to calm her down, stroking her hair and telling her things he knew she wanted to hear, and she fell asleep.

Everyone who came along to the hospital was politely sent home by Lindsey. He thanked them for their concern and care, but he also said that there was no reason for everybody to stay, until nothing was certain about Evan and Stevie was asleep anyway. And only when he was by himself, Lindsey let his guard down, his true feelings about his son coming through, as he shed a few tears, wiping them quickly away, when a nurse came through the door with a smile on her face, showing him to follow her outside into the hallway, noting that Stevie was sleeping.

"Give me some good news, please." Lindsey pleaded, as the older nurse put her arm around his shoulders smiling.

"Let's go meet your boy."

Instant relief washed over Lindsey, tears falling down from his eyes, but he wasn't at all ashamed. He started feeling nervous, once they approached the intensive care unit, feeling his palms becoming a little sweaty. Grace, the nurse, walked him to one of the incubators, giving him a gentle push forward.

"Hey there, buddy." Lindsey smiled, sitting down on the chair. "You gave us quite a scare, you know. We weren't expecting to meet you yet, you really surprised us, son. Mommy cried herself to sleep, worrying about you, but it's so good to know you're okay, I can't wait for you to meet her. You're going to love her, she'll be the most important woman in your life, Evan, always." Swallowing the lump in his throat, Lindsey hung his head low, feeling a rush of emotions coming.

Grace approached him carefully, placing a hand on his shoulder. "He's fine, Mr. Buckingham. Everything is not as scary as it may seem to you, he's over eight months, which means he's just a little smaller than most babies. I can assure you that your boy is healthy."

Nodding his head and offering a small smile, Lindsey turned his attention back to Evan. "You have no idea how much we love you. We're going to make sure that you're taken care of, that you have everything you need and want, I promise you that."

He spent some more time by their baby's side, before thinking that if Stevie wakes up, she won't like it very much if he wasn't around. Besides, he wanted to let her know everything was okay as soon as possible, so she could stop worrying.

Lindsey was somewhat glad that Stevie slept through the night. She needed all the rest she could get. And if he was honest with himself, he did too. It was bright outside, when Lindsey opened his eyes and saw Stevie awake, just lying in bed, staring at the ceiling.

"Why didn't you wake me up, honey?"

"You looked like you needed sleep."

"How long have you been awake for?" Getting up on his feet, Lindsey stood next to her, bending a little to kiss her. He quickly saw it on her face, she didn't care about his question, anxiously waiting to know something about their son. "He's just fine, Steph. I got to spend a little time with him and he's healthy. He doesn't even have problems breathing on his own. He's simply a bit smaller, but that's all, baby."

Her eyes brimmed with tears, as she looked up at him, as if studying his face for a minute. "Really?"

"Yes, really." Lindsey confirmed, giving her another kiss. "I'll go ask the nurse if we can see him."

Shortly, Lindsey returned with Grace, who was pushing a wheelchair into the room, seeing the expression on Stevie's face, she said. "This is necessary, Mrs. Buckingham."

"Wow..."

"What? Did I say something wrong?"

"No... I just... Linds, we got married yesterday."

Laughing lightly, Lindsey nodded. "Yes, we did, babe. Our boy decided to overshadow us a little." Helping her out of the bed and into the chair, Lindsey took over from Grace, wheeling Stevie into the ICU.

"Does he have your eyes?" Stevie asked.

"I'm not sure, Evan was sleeping, when I was there with him."

"I hope he has your eyes." Stevie said, maybe even more to herself.

Seeing their son for the first time, needless to say, brought tears to Stevie's eyes, as she clutched Lindsey's hand in hers tightly. But a smile crossed her lips as well, glancing at Lindsey for a moment, before focusing on baby Evan again.

"Aren't you just the cutest little thing." She gushed. "I'm your Mommy, baby, and I love you with all my heart. I love you more than Daddy, imagine that." Lindsey acted offended, which made Stevie giggle. "I prayed that you were okay, baby, and I'm so happy that you are. You are one handsome little boy. I bet you're going to get all the girls." Her smile was wide and always present on her face, while she spoke to their son, making Lindsey's heart swell with joy.

Due to the fact that Evan hadn't been carried to full term, the little Buckingham family stayed at the hospital for several days more than usual. On the last morning there, both sides of the family came in, eager to meet the boy, bringing in toys and balloons for him, flowers for Stevie, as they congratulated the new parents.

Soon after everyone left, the littlest Buckingham was released from the hospital. Lindsey loaded all the gifts they received into the trunk of his car, coming back to take his two most loved people in the world and bring them home.

Stevie was glad to be back, cooing to Evan as she carried him inside the house, with Lindsey close behind, putting everything down in the hallway for later sorting, which would be done by Stevie. Taking a look at her and catching her attention, the two smiled at each other, as Lindsey approached his wife and son, kissing her and stroking his cheek with the back of his finger softly.

"Lindsey?" Stevie then asked.

"Yeah?"

"What the hell do we do now?"

That made him laugh, as he shrugged his shoulders, wrapping an arm around her. "Haven't got a clue, baby, but we'll figure it out."

Smiling, she gave him a small nod. "We'll figure it out."
