Summary : Steve x Bucky
Written in 3rd Person
( gonna ease into the stucky one shots with a short brotp one shot )•••
Steve Rogers didn't necessarily mean to get himself into fights. But he definitely wasn't going to stand aside and let a bully get away with it. 'Specially not today when he saw the two Jones boys picking on Ruth Davis and her new dress.
"You wanna say that again?" was all it took, and Steve ended up with a black eye and a nasty cut on his lip. But in his victory, the two boys left young Miss Davis alone, and Steve felt better.
But several minutes later, when the alley was clear, the pain started to kick in. Steve winced as he got to his feet and brushed the dirt off of his clothes.
The blonde boy trudged his way down the sidewalk, careful not to step in anyone's way. Soon enough, he found himself on the steps of Bucky Barnes' apartment.
Steve hesitated, but then raised his bruised and bloody knuckles to rap at the door. In a matter of seconds, the door opened.
Bucky's face lit up when he saw his best friend, but when he looked closer and noticed the bruises, he rolled his eyes and let out an aggravated sigh.
"I swear to God, Steve." Bucky groans, grabbing the smaller boy by the shirt collar and tugging him inside the apartment.
"I had to do something!" Steve replies defensively, letting himself be dragged into the kitchen.
"That's what you always say." Bucky grumbles and shakes his head with a sigh. He releases his grip on Steve, leaving him standing in front of the kitchen counter.
"You get up on that counter. I'm gonna go get the first aid kit." Bucky orders, running a hand through his messy hair before leaving Steve in the kitchen.
Steve sighs, but a smile tugs at the corner of his lips. He hoists himself up onto the counter as Bucky told him to, and then waited patiently for his friend to return.
This always happened. Steve would get himself into a fight, and Bucky would be the one to help him back up. Or at least, clean him up afterwards. Steve smiled again, tapping his brown shoes together softly.
Bucky had always been there for Steve, ever since the day they first met, which, mind you, was quite a while ago. Bucky was Steve's greatest friend, and the same vice versa.
"Steve, one of these days, you're gonna get yourself killed." Bucky enters the kitchen again, setting the first aid kit on the counter beside the blonde.
"I've alway come out of it okay. Besides, someone has to do somethin'." Steve replies, watching as Bucky moves closer to him.
"Right, and I'll be the one scrapin' you off of every sidewalk in Brooklyn. Geez, Steve," Bucky murmurs, gently tilting Steve's chin up to get a better view of his busted lip, cursing mildly under his breath at the sight.
Steve watched Bucky, who was giving him his utmost attention to try and fix him up. Steve noted the way Bucky's eyes flickered back and forth as he looked at the bruises and cuts littering his skin.
"Steve," Bucky sighs, wetting a piece of cloth in the sink. "You gotta be more careful out there."
Bucky gingerly dabs the damp cloth onto Steve's cut lip, frowning when the blonde winces.
"Sorry," Bucky murmurs, washing the blood and dirt off of Steve's cheek.
"S'okay. I guess I deserve it." Steve replies, lowering his eyes to rest on Bucky's white t-shirt.
Bucky pauses for a moment, trying to think of what to say. He chews on his bottom lip in thought, before pushing Steve's hair back from his forehead to clean yet another scrape.
"Just.. Be careful, okay?" Bucky looks at Steve intently, resting his hands on the counter on either sides of his legs.
"I know, I know." Steve mumbles, not bringing his eyes up to meet Bucky's. Steve's blonde hair flops down onto his brows, and Bucky nudges him gently.
"I'm serious."
"I know." Steve looks up at Bucky this time, giving him a small smile.
"You ought to." Bucky replies teasingly, leaning up from the counter to grab the bandages from the first aid kit.
Bucky patched Steve up, carefully placing the strips of white tape over the cuts. After Steve's face was cleaned off, his injuries looked much less concerning, and Bucky sighed in relief.
Once Steve was all bandaged and clean, Bucky helped him off of the counter.
"Thanks, Buck." Steve smiles up at the taller boy.
"Anytime. You know I'm always gonna be here to stitch you up." Bucky replies gently.
"I know."
