"Oh, Steve, he's gonna love it!"  You exclaim as Steve carefully sets a newly frosted cake on the center of the wooden table.

"I'm excited to see his reaction," Steve admits with a grin, placing his hands on his hips and admiring the work the two of you had done today.

Blue and red balloons floated around the ceiling, tied to chairs and cabinet handles.  Steve creatively strung streamers around the kitchen, and together, you hung up a sign that read: "Happy 20th Birthday, Bucky!"

The decorations were a real treat.  Both you and Steve had been working extra time to save enough money to buy streamers and balloons to surprise Bucky.  It was his 20th birthday, today, after all, and you both felt he deserved a special surprise.  Luckily, you'd pulled it off.  Steve had a day off of work today, and your boss let you leave early since you'd been staying overtime.  At 2:00, the two of you shopped in downtown Brooklyn for party decorations.

With the extra money, you bought Bucky a new shirt and a nice watch, which was not cheap at all.  The watch was your idea, and both of you pooled your money to buy it.  He was for sure going to love it.  He's always talked about getting one.

"What time is he getting home?"  You ask a little nervously.

"Should be here in a few minutes."

In the suspense, you could hear your heart pounding with excitement.

"So, should I wait outside for h-"

"Hey, guys!"  Steve was cut off by Bucky's cheery voice.  You let out a small scream and rush for the door.  If it wasn't for the hallway, Bucky would've seen the surprise immediately.

"Steve, get the lights!"  You squeal, trying not to laugh as you rush to Bucky, who was peeling off his coat and stepping out of his shoes.

"What's going on?"  Bucky laughs as you jump excitedly behind him and stand on your tip toes to cover his eyes with your hands.

You were shaking with excitement, and the unexpected scare Bucky had given you, but you guide him into the kitchen, biting your lip to conceal the grin on your lips.

"Ready?"  You ask both boys.  You look at Steve in the darkened corner by the light switch, who nods.

Steve flicks on the lights and you uncover Bucky's eyes.  Both of you shout "surprise!" to Bucky, who gasps.

"What?!  You guys!!"  Bucky squeals, eyes shining as he turns to you in disbelief.

"Happy birthday, Bucky!"  You exclaim, hugging his neck.

"Aw, thanks, Doll!"  Bucky grins at you and you both walk further into the kitchen.

Bucky slings an arm around Steve's neck, pulling him into his other side.

The three of you stand and look at the decorations and the cake.  Bucky's smile was contagious, and he couldn't stop thanking you and Steve.

"Who wants cake?"  You ask, heading for the drawer to retrieve a knife.

"Me!"  Both boys reply.  Steve gets the plates and forks, stopping Bucky from helping him and making him sit in his chair at the table with a smile.

Steve starts singing "Happy Birthday" to Bucky, and you join him.  Bucky flushes pink, grinning widely and blowing out the candles on the cake when the song ends.

"You guys didn't have to do this," Bucky says as you set a slice of cake on his plate.

"Aw, shut it, Buck."  Steve laughs.  "We wanted to."

"And you deserve it," You add, smiling at the 20 year old as you take a seat at the table.

"I love you guys."  Bucky smiles, taking the first bite of cake.

"We love you, too."  You and Steve reply at the same time.

When you finish the cake, you hand Bucky his presents.

"Guys," Bucky says, looking up.  "You really didn't have to.."

"But we did."  You smile.  "Open them!"

Bucky does as told, reacting even better than you imagined.  He pulls both you and Steve into a giant bear hug, laughing in delight.  He thanked you countless times, each time more sincere than the last.

As you clean the kitchen, Bucky wanders into the living room and turns on the radio.

  "Hey, (y/n)," Bucky calls.  "C'mere."

You walk happily into the living room to Bucky, who outstretches his hand.

"Would you dance with me?  Extra birthday gift?"  Bucky asks, a charming smile on his lips.

"Of course.  Free of charge."  You smile, taking Bucky's hand.

Bucky dances you across the living room, hands on your waist.  Your giggles blend with the swing music.  Your arms are wrapped around Bucky's neck, sometimes resting on his shoulders or chest.

Bucky smiles at you as a song comes to an end.  He pulls you close until you can feel his breath fanning your cheeks.  You flush, fingers toying with the hair on the nape of his neck.

"You're amazing."  Bucky whispers, touching his forehead to yours.

"And so are you, birthday boy."  You reply, feeling his hands squeeze your waist.

Bucky dips his head slightly lower, level with yours.  He looks into your eyes carefully, and then averts his gaze briefly to your lips.

  "Doll.." Bucky starts, hesitating.

"You can say it."  You encourage him, smiling.  Butterflies had erupted in your stomach and your skin felt like electricity was running through it.

"Can I kiss you?"  Bucky asks politely.  You can see the faint blush on his cheeks.

You giggle and nod.  "Yeah,"

Bucky smiles and kisses you softly, not too deep or overwhelming; just slow and passionate.

He pulls away after a few seconds, another contagious grin spreading uncontrollably on his lips.

  "Best birthday ever."
