summary: bucky x fem!reader, short fluff
•••The summer night air is soothing to your skin as you lean against the railings of the fire escape. Your sheer night dress sways in the breeze, tickling your bare legs.
Brooklyn was beautiful at night, especially in the view from your apartment. The city's lights were just gorgeous to admire in the nighttime, but that wasn't what you were leaned against the rails for. You were out here for the stars.
Outer space had always fascinated you. And though the city light caused a bit of inconvenience while viewing the twinkling stars, you always found a way to block it out.
You'd turned the lights in your apartment off, and the neighbors were mostly all asleep. Steve had even already gone to bed. You shared an apartment with your best friends, Steve and Bucky; except, well, Bucky was more than a friend. And he must have had a late work shift that night, because he still wasn't home.
You stay out on the balcony for hours at a time. Some nights, you'd stay until the sun came up. You pick out all the constellations that you can find and recognize, writing down new ones in the notebook Steve got you for your birthday.
"What are you doing out here, Doll?" A warm voice asks. Bucky closes the balcony door behind him as he steps out beside you.
"Lookin' at the stars," You reply, feeling Bucky come up behind you and wrap his arms around your waist.
"I figured." Bucky murmurs, resting his chin on the top of your head as you lean back into his embrace.
"D'ya see the "Big Dipper"?" You whisper back to Bucky.
Bucky loved to listen to you ramble about the stars - every time he listened to you he seemed to learn more about the constellations and planets, and it delighted the both of you.
"Where?" Bucky asks, dropping his chin to your shoulder and squeezing your waist.
"There," You align your arm with Bucky's line of vision and point out the constellation.
"Oh, I see it!" Bucky exclaims and you smile. "And the little one is right next to it."
"Yes," You confirm. "You see the brightest star in the Little Dipper? That's Polaris, the North Star."
"You're such a dork, (y/n)." Bucky giggles softly. "That's why I love you."
You smile, turning away from the stars to kiss Bucky briefly. He hums in contentment when your lips meet his.
You turn back around let out a quiet sigh, satisfied with everything. The city noises are gentle and lulling. Lights are beginning to grow dim and turn off. The stars only grow brighter, much to your approval.
"The moon's bright," Bucky comments after a while.
You hum, looking up at the half moon. "I'd like to go to the moon."
"People on the moon?" Bucky asks in awe. "D'ya think it's possible?"
You smile, turning around to face him again. "Anything's possible, Buck. You just have to set your mind to it."
