Chapter 11: Because of You

Your POV

"Cass?!"

At that moment, everything stopped. No one made a move, no one made a sound. Silence filled the guild, making me feel even more stress. I breathed deeply and struggled to keep in my tears.

"Where is your formality? Didn't your mother teach you respect?" Cass retorts.

I clench my fists, desperately trying to contain my anger. Not here, not while everyone is watching.

Cass starts slowly walking towards the table where Michael and Catalina were. My body moves before my brain and I run to their table, stopping a few metres away from her causing her to stop. She stares at me with an emotionless face as she talks.

"Could you please move away from Michael and Catalina." Her voice was calm yet, frightening as if she was threatening me.

My mind makes its decision as I slowly sit down, still facing her. She frowns slightly but returns to her emotionless face as she turns around and walks back to the middle of the guild, facing me as she speaks.

"I have lawyers you know. You can't keep them to yourself forever." She continued, only making the fuse inside of me spark. "They'll need proper care. Something that you and I both know that you can't provide." I turn around in my seat and face the ground, closing my eyes in the process.

3rd POV

The silence is unbroken as Cass continues to speak.

"Michael and Catalina deserve better than you're giving them. I can give them what they need, a proper childhood."

You tense up and clench your fist as she says that sentence. Rogue notices and starts walking towards you, ignoring the immense stare that Cass is casting on him.

"Who on earthland are you and why have you interrupted our talk? Can't you see that this is between us?" She questions him as he stands behind you.

"Can't you see that you're in a room full of people?" Rogue asks her, staring at her as she gazes around her.

"You make a valid point, but this talk is for family only. Not for strangers to interfere."

"Well that's too bad." Sting says as he makes his way over to your table. "When someone joins a guild, they are protected and cared for by the people within that guild. And right now, you're in the middle of the family she's in."

You open your eyes but keep your gaze on the floor as Sting speaks. Sting, Yukino, Minerva, Rufus and Rogue were now staring down Cass as she stands there, wide-eyed at the sudden stares. She soon returns to her normal facial expression.
"This isn't a family, it's just an excuse to make up a group that anyone can join. All you do is go out and do jobs. Why don't you all get a REAL job that you can keep? Saves you having to travel around on different jobs you know."

Rogue growls lowly as he starts walking towards Cass, ready to kick her out.
But something pulled him back.
He looks down his arm to see your hand firmly wrapped around his wrist. He stares at you as you lift your head up, enough for Rogue to see your eyes. Tears were threatening to fall but you hold them back as you speak.

"She's right, this is between me and her. I don't want you to get involved." You whisper enough for Rogue to hear. He looks at you for a few seconds before making his decision. He walks back to you and sits down beside you, sliding his hand down to yours, squeezing it a little as you return your gaze to the floor.
