Chapter 9: Eddie seems weird

Loren's Point Of View

Something's up with Eddie. He's been off all day and every time I've asked him what's up, his body stiffens and his face gets weird.

Have I said or done something wrong? I've been asking myself all day what I possibly can have done to make him nervous. Everything was perfect just a few hours ago and now I don't know what to think.

"Loren, have you seen my yellow shirt?" Mom shouts.

I stand up and look through my closet, my eyes almost immediately landing on mom's yellow shirt.

"Yeah it's in here."

She walks in to my bedroom fully dressed. Almost fully dressed. She looks good. "What is it doing in here?" She wonders.

"You remember that time a few months ago when-"I stop myself from humiliation when mom starts smirking.

"That only proofs I use my clothes too little." We both laugh.

"Mom you look great, where is he taking you?"

"For dinner somewhere, he says he's seen a new place open up an hour from here."

"Yeah?"

"He says it's an Italian restaurant but I don't know.. We'll see." Shrugging her shoulders, she walks over to kiss my forehead and says a quick goodbye before exiting my room again.

"Have fun." I shout.

"Thanks!"

"So, are you excited to start school?"

"I don't know.."

"Mel, you've been dreaming of this for years.. What's changed now?"

"Adam. I can't believe I'm not going to see him every day more."

"But Mel, you'll still see him occasionally. I bet he'll be so lonely without you and miss you so much that he'll be visiting almost every month. He loves you."

"Yeah, you're right." She sits down on the chair again after she's done phasing around the room.

"I'm going to miss you too you know." I state fact. It's true, I'm going to miss my best friend so much but I try to remind myself that this is how it's going to be from now on. We've all gone our separate ways and have to learn that everything will be different soon. Soon Melissa will be a professional photographer and film maker, which I'm more than thrilled about. Adam will be going to the school he's always wanted to get in to, which also is really exciting. I got my own career now.

"I'm going to miss you too Lo." We hug.  "How's Eddie?" Melissa cheeses at me.

"Actually, I wanted to talk to you about that.. he seems weird." I say.

"Weird? Weird how?"

"Well for starters this morning.. he said he had a few errands to run and I thought okay, nothing wrong with that EXCEPT ITS 7 AM. No store is open that early."

"Ooo that does seem weird."

"I know right, but that's not all. When he got back after a few hours he was hiding something."
