Chapter 14: Yes

Max's Point Of View.

"Cheers." I say as we clink our cups together. I take s huge sip of my coffee, almost emptying the cup. Gotta love me some coffee over any other beverage.
"Can I see the ring?"

Eddie nods immediately, "Yes! Of course, I'll go get it." He walks in to his bedroom.

While he's in there, I see a picture of a women I miss so dearly. My beloved wife, Kate. I miss you sweetie, I miss you so much. I'm being taken good care of. Don't you worry about me. Nora is incredible. She reminds me a whole lot about you actually, which is probably the reason I fell for her in the first place. We're really happy, we live together as you might've seen. I've moved to the Valley and it's great. I love you Kate.

The steps of Eddie walking back in the the living room brings me out of my own little bubble. "You're okay with me dating Nora, right?" I ask my son.

He looks confused as to why I'm asking that question out of nowhere, but he shrugs it off and claps my knee, "Of course I am. It makes me so happy to see you happy again. She brings out the best in you."

Both of us just smile and he slowly reveals the engagement ring he got for Loren. "You did good son. How much was it?"

Eddie just laughs and says he doesn't want to tell and that's totally fine as well. It was probably a few thousand dollars, which is in all seriousness a lot to spend on a ring but we all want what's best for our ladies. "Serious question though.." He starts.

"Hit me." I say.

He then asks,
"Do you think she'll say yes?"

Loren's Point Of View.

Eddie and Max have been gone for about 90 minutes now, which is longer than I expected but also totally fine because it has gone by fast and given me time to be there for my best friend.

Mom says Max just texted Nora saying they're on their way back to the hospital again right now, but they just had to make a stop on their way. Eddie then texts me as well.

Text from Eddie:

We're on our way, have to make one small stop on the way so I'll be there in 30. I love you princess ☺️

I gush and text him back. He's such a sweetheart.

Text to Eddie:

Good, I miss you. Drive safely. Love you too 💛

I press send and put my phone back in my tiny bag which is around my neck, hanging down the side of my frame. Melissa and I decide to go get coffee and some milk chocolate.

She insists on paying since I paid the last time we hung out and I try to stop her but she stands by her word and thanks me for being here all day even though I didn't have to.

"But I wanted to." I say back. And I mean it. She's such an amazing friend who I'd do anything for. "Have you spoken to Lisa or Gus today? Like about if you're now gonna stay in contact with Beth?"

"No I haven't. But I don't see any reason to why we should. I mean, I'd want to, but she made it very clear the last time we spoke together at my house that she made the right choice leaving me with Gus and Lisa when I was born. Nothing's changed. I feel sorry for her and care for her, but nothing's changed Lo." She explains.

"Yeah.. no I think it has. Cause after all that, she still put your name as her contact person. Why would she do that if she doesn't want to see you on a regular basis?"
