Pearl's gem glowed, then rose gracefully into the air. It had been two days since the humans had attacked the Earth Scout Team. Pearl had decided to make her own garments. She really hoped Rose wouldn't mind.

Her form solidified, and she staggered a bit before steadying herself. She found a mirror and looked at herself. She still had the same hairstyle, but now she was wearing a plain turquoise leotard, pink yoga pants, yellow slippers, and a transparent drape that went just past her solar plexus. Pearl took a deep breath and chanced a smile. Then-

"My Pearl!" Pearl started and turned to see Rose. Pearl gulped and tried to smile. All she managed was an odd grimace. "Pearl," said Rose, stopping in her tracks with wide eyes. "You look...great!" Rose laughed and Pearl grinned.

"So you... you don't mind?"

"What? Not at all! Let you be you! Is that comfortable?" Pearl looked at herself.

"I guess. What do you think of it?" Rose's happiness suddenly flickered with sadness.

"Pearl, why should I care? It's your form!" Pearl looked down and blushed slightly. She had just noticed that Rose's puffy white strapless dress hadn't changed. So Rose hadn't even poofed. Pearl didn't need to have sacrificed herself.

Rose had just realized what Pearl was blushing about. "Pearl..." Rose walked over to her servant and took Pearl's white face in her hands. "Pearl, you made a valiant sacrifice. I might have poofed if it weren't you. After you all poofed, I... Pearl, I need to trust you with something." Pearl's eyes widened with shock and she nodded quickly. Pearl felt a guilty sense of elation.

Rose looked to the side. "Pearl, I've... I've been able to do this... this thing. Using my gem I can... summon a weapon. I don't know how it happens, I just no that I've done it only twice and I did it the second time to protect myself and the Team's gems right after you were poofed. I'm sorry i couldn't summon it earlier, it's just..." Rose took a deep breath and looked back at Pearl. "Pearl, I'm not supposed to do that. When I summoned my weapon the first time, I felt like... like I I finally existed. I felt more than just another soldier, more than just another Gem... I want you to be just another Gem. You're different. And that's a good thing. I know you might not think so, but... you matter to me, Pearl. You really do, and I want to share what I know and what I'm planning with you." Pearl was still processing everything. She felt elated, somber, and confused all at the same time.

"What plans?," asked Pearl in a confused voice. Rose took another steadying breath and looked around to make sure no one was listening.

"Pearl, Earth, it's... it's unique. The humans, they have something Gems don't have, but something Gems need. Humans have personalities. They're their own people. We as Gems need that." Pearl looked at Rose.

She has to be joking.

"Rose... the Diamonds, you know they do this for a reason, right? They need us to be like this so that we all function properly."

Rose smiled sadly. "Of course you think that, Pearl. You were made a servant. You were made to follow the system, as is every other Gem on this planet. But that's not how it's supposed to be. Pearl, those humans may have seemed like animals, but they only attacked us because they wanted to protect their friend. We as gems, we don't see that. We see each other as disposable... things. Pearl, I want to show the Diamonds that we can be like them. That we can be more than just rocks with bodies. We need to show them that. If we could just find a way to create new Gems without sucking the life out of Earth and the humans, then we might be able to make ourselves better. We could finally all be at peace."

Rose looked at Pearl hopefully. Pearl's mind was reeling. How could she even think of something like this? If the Diamonds found out- but if Rose is doing it, then I guess I-

"AAAAAAHHHHH!" Rose's head whipped around. The scream came again. And again. Rose sprinted forward without looking back, towards the screaming.

"Wait!," yelled Pearl. "Rose, it might not be- ROSE!" Pearl ran after her master, the screaming getting louder in her ears. And now, more noises. Grunting, rubble breaking, and punching noises. Pearl kept running forward until she reached a corner, turned, and then almost crashed into Rose.

"Rose! I'm sorry, I-" Pearl gasped and her eyes widened to saucers. She covered her mouth. In front of her, What seemed like fifteen fused Rubies were fighting Pink Diamond. The Mega Ruby threw a punch which landed painfully on Pink Diamonds face. Pink Diamond fell back and the Mega Ruby tried to stomp on top of her. Pink Diamond cast a pink aura around her. The Mega Ruby hit the aura, then roared in pain as it was launched backwards and then split into it's separate parts and poofed.

Pink Diamond staggered up. Pearl was ready to go help her former master when a white blur streaked from the sky. It hit the ground and the earth below her cracked. White Diamond had come.

"Sister," Pink Diamond panted, "Yellow Diamond sends her Rubies to try and subdue me, and now you? What is the meaning of this?" White Diamond just strode forward and took out a large gray sphere. She held it between her hands and released it. The sphere floated between her hands and started to glow white.

"Sister, stop this! I love you with all my heart, and I do not want this to come to blows. Please, sister, tell me why you are doing this?"

"How about Green Diamond," White Diamond said in a cold voice. "Killed because you experimented on the plants in her dominion. Black Diamond, killed because you insisted mercy on those creatures we found in the Ebony System. Red Diamond, killed because you insisted on allowing the Corrupted Sanctuary! You have killed out brothers and sisters time and time again, and yet you brush it off! This cannot go on, sister. You must be shattered." The sphere grew bigger.

"Sister, you know I am deeply sorry," said Pink Diamond in a voice thick with sorrow and plea, "And you know that haunts me every day. But the humans are different. Please, I know you were upset at what I suggested, but no more will be killed, I promise!"

"What about the Scout Team? All poofed but your representative! If that isn't suspicious, then i don't know what is."

Pink Diamond's beautiful eyes narrowed. "You think i'm a traitor? You know all of these Gems are my children. And all a mother wants for her kin is for them to be free! Please, Earth can be the perfect place for this!"

White Diamond shook her head. "I'm sorry, sister."

"Who will take care of Kindergatening without me, sister? Who will raise our Gems?"

"Yellow Diamond will be taking care of that."

The rage Pink Diamond felt was visible on her usually kind face, and it scared Pearl. "Our sister is a monster, and you know it! All she knows is calculations, ones and zeros! please, do not do this to my children."

"I am sorry, sister. But you will still have a mural at the Earth Moon Base." Pink Diamond gave a cry of anger and charged at her sister. White Diamond took the sphere in one hand and threw it at her sister.

"NO!" Pearl screamed as Pink Diamond's form started cracking, white light spilling from the cracks, and then, with one loud boom and a scream, she exploded. Her gem fell to the ground, and White Diamond picked it up. She looked at it for a second before crushing it in the palm of her hand. Pearl screamed again as her former master's shattered gem fell to the ground in dozens of sparkling pieces and Pink Diamond was no more.
