Humans

"What are you?!," Jasper roared in the human's face, which was turning a seemingly unnatural shade of purple. "WHAT ARE YOU?!"

"Jasper, stop!" Jasper turned and saw Rose and Pearl rush to her side. "Jasper, put the human down!" Jasper looked confused.

"Put the what down?"

"It's a human!," cried Pearl breathlessly. "Jasper, you're choking it!" The human's face was turning an even deeper purple.

"Shut up, runt!," yelled Jasper at Pearl. "The adults are talking here! This looks like a Gem, not a 'human'!" She shoved Pearl back, and she went flying ten yards. Pearl slammed onto the ground and tried to get up, but faltered. She fell to one knee and stood up slowly, shaking. jasper and Rose were arguing, but Pearl wasn't paying attention to them. She had heard something. There was a rustle in the bushed in front of her. She stepped slowly forward. Another rustle. Pearl took another. And then everything was chaos.

A dozen humans shot from the bushed and trees, brandishing sharp sticks and metal weapons. They slashed and jabbed, and Pearl ran backwards. "Rose!," she screamed. "ROSE! THERE ARE MORE OF THEM!" Rose, Jasper, Lapis and Moonstone looked back. All their eyes widened. Then Pearl saw something else. From behind her comrades. Another rustle. And then...

"ROSE!" Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. Pearl elbowed a human in front of her and took his weapon. A sword. Then, leaping in front of her master, she jumped up and slashed at a human who was brandishing a mace. The human screamed and fell to the ground. The other humans stopped charging and now circled slowly around the Gems, who were now pressed against each other. The humans snarled, and the Gems got into fighting stances. Jasper her huge fists out in front of her, Moonstone's hands were glowing, Lapis had her fingers ready, and Pearl had her sword out in front of her. Rose, though, was looking desperate.

"Please, Gems, don't attack, if we could just-"

"YAAAAAAAAH!" Jasper took the nearest human and headbutted him, then charged into the next one and plunged her fist into his gut. The human's eyes bulged, and Jasper laughed, tossing him to the side like a toy. The other human men ran forward, their weapons flashing as they tried to stab the Gems. Moonstone floated upwards and raised her hands, then slammed them down. Two humans were slammed to the ground, and they didn't move. Moonstone threw two more away tellikinetically before getting shot in the head with what appeared to be a long, point stick with some black material on it. Moonstone fell, then poofed in a puff of smoke. Rose cried out and put a pink bubble around Moonstone's gray gem.

Lapis raised her fingers, then her hand, then wrist, then whole arm. A huge hand made of water came out of the river below them and she slammed it onto five more humans. She threw the hand to the side, and trapped two more. But a dozen more humans came out of nowhere, and she couldn't hold them off. She got stabbed in the stomach by a sword, and she poofed. Rose put another pink bubble around the tear shaped, aqua gem.

Jasper punched, kicked and headbutted everyone in sight, and all the human's fell, red liquid pouring from their bodies. Five human jumped at Jasper, and covered her. With a roar, Jasper threw them all away, and all the humans fell with sickening crunches. Then Jasper was getting hit from above by small little thin... arrows? Jasper roared and looked back just to get peppered in the eyes. She ran forward, a few arrows getting stuck in her, before she went to the tree the humans firing the arrows were standing in and punched it. There was a loud boom and the tree cracked, and tipped. the humans jumped down, kicking out at the tree as they went, so that it fell towards Jasper. The mighty orange Quartz caught the tree as it was about to hit her and, with a cry of exertion, she shoved it to the side. Panting, she screamed and an arrow went through her knee and stayed there. She staggered as another arrow lodged in her arm. Jasper fell and looked up just in time to get an arrow to her eye. With one last ear-piercing scream, Jasper poofed. Rose ran forward and grabbed Jasper's gem, then covered it in that pink bubble.

Meanwhile, Pearl was slashing left and right with the sword. She stabbed it into a human's chest, then whirled around and chopped another human's arm off. For some reason, this felt... good. It felt right. Pearl's weren't combative Gems, but Pearl was laying waste to human after human. It was somehow easy. Like it was always in her. And all she had to do was have the urge to protect...

"Rose! I'm coming!" Pearl sprinted forward, slaying every human in her wake, then, just as two humans swung thick whips at Rose, Pearl launched herself between them and twirled like how she did before. The sword hit the humans in their sides and they fell, the same red liquid flowing from them.

There were still a dozen humans, and Pearl felt her strength leaving her. She ran forward and killed two more men when she was struck in the leg by a club. She fell and covered her face uselessly as another club smacked her nose. She screamed and tried to crawl back to Rose, but the humans dragged her back to them and started viciously beating her with their clubs. Pearl cried out, tears filling hr eyes and she felt her physical body get bruised and broken.

"Rose!," Pearl yelled, crying out again as another human struck her head, "Rose, I'm- ah!- I'm sorry, I couldn't... I couldn't protect you-!" The last thing Pearl saw was Rose running towards her, her pink arm outstretched, as her Quartz gem glowed and a large pink disc came protruding out from it.
