'I don't know why you bother.' he said, eyes still concentrated on his monitor.
'What?' I frowned, looking at him.
'With her.'
'Vik, I'm not 'bothering'. I met her at a club, and we've spoke a few times since.
'I know, but she just seems like... bad news.'
'Okay, mum.'
'I'm just trying to look out for you.'
He turned to look at me, eyes wide and full of concern. My heart softened.
'Vik, honestly? It's nothing. I met her in a weird club, there's no way any thing is going to happen.'
He smiled then, and nodded to himself. When he realised he was smiling, he shook his head slightly and turned back to his desk.
I'm not sure, but I swear I heard him say
'only looking out for you'
under his breath.
When he went to sleep that night, I couldn't keep my gaze from drifting towards his face.
'What is going on?' I whispered to myself.
A few hours later, I woke up. It was still dark, and I think he was asleep.
Until, that is, I heard him mumble
'this isn't meant to happen.'
