Chapter 1: Another regular day

It was a beautiful morning as I finished my breakfast and got ready to help my dad on the fields. I passed my mom who'd just returned with firewood and smiled at her as I passed. I ran as fast as I could since I was late and took a shortcut by jumping down a ledge. I then had to pass through a tiny forest where I met about five wolves.

The first one leapt at me but I kicked it in the face and knocked it out cold. Before any of the other wolves could react I dashed over and crushed two of their skulls by delivering two powerful, downward blows. The remaining two got scared and ran off which saved me some time.

Happily I skipped along the rest of the pathway because it was a lot of fun hanging out with dad as he always told the best jokes. I soon reached the edge of the forest and was standing on an overhanging cliff from where I could see the beautiful fields that seemed to flow like the ocean over the mountain tops. I walked back a bit and dashed towards the edge so I'd jump far enough, in between the cliff and the other mountain was a crevice which seemed bottomless from my point of view.

I felt the wind through my hair as I flew through the air and fell about twenty meters before landing in one of the large haystacks I'd put there as a safe way to use the shortcut. I called out to my dad and he responded that he was harvesting the pumpkins which meant I'd have to hike over the mountain top, but walking is boring and I had plenty of energy so I ran as fast as I could. Unfortunately this caused me to trip and roll down the other side. On the bright side, this was much faster than I could have possibly run. I was brought to a standstill when I hit one of the large pumpkins that grew in these lush fields and then proceeded to get up like I did all of that on purpose.

"So...", I started. "What kind of jobs do you have for me today, dad?"

"Well, the pumpkins need to be harvested...", he said as he pointed at the massive vegetables. "But they're probably too heavy for you, so you're in charge of dragging the carts I've filled back home. Think you can do that?"

"Aye aye sir", I said as I saluted.

"What are you standing around for then?", he said in a jokingly bossy manner. We both laughed and got to work.

After carrying a couple of carts back and forth I met mom on her way to the fields: "Hey mom", I smiled when I saw her.

"How's my little girl doing?", she asked as she saw me carry the load of pumpkins.

"I'm 17 mom. I'm no longer your little girl."

She sighed and replied with: "I know, but time just goes so fast."

"Gotta go now, can't keep dad waiting. Bye mom."

"Bye sweety"

I continued to drag carts back and forth for a couple of hours and returned to the fields because we were having a picnic like we always do and I looked forward to it very much. Except today would be different... In a way I could have never possibly imagined... My life would never be the same again as it'd be impossible for me to return for these good old times....

The foreshadowing's so obvious I suppose everyone already guessed what'll happen next. So I'm pretty sure this doesn't count as a cliffhanger.
