Chapter 3: The hunt is on

"You didn't think we'd actually do something reckless, did you?", my dad said with a smile on his face. "If we were going to give our lives to protect you, which we'd do if we had to, we'd at least have told you to run away." He patted me on the head.

Meanwhile, I saw my mother looking through the pockets and clothes of the bodies. She then smiled before getting up with a piece of paper in her hand. "I knew it", she exclaimed proudly.

"What is it mom?", I asked her.

"I knew that something was off", she continued talking to herself. "There's no way anyone would come all the way up here to kill us just for the kills. They even said that we were worth practically nothing. And this piece of paper proves that were hired to kill us." She held it up high and the first thing that caught my attention was the ominous-looking logo. "This states that they were hired by the 'Bloody Smile Corporation'."

"Sounds scary", I said.

"In that case", my father had a serious look on his face. "We should leave and try to find out more about these smiling idiots. If we stay here they'll just keep sending stronger people until we get killed. So, I say we take the fight to them."

"While I agree with you", my mother looked just as serious as my dad. "I think we should leave the decision up to Sarah. To us it's just like old times, but to her..."

"It's a new life of danger, death and adventure. I know", I told them. "But I won't forgive the bastards who dared mess with my family."

"Where did all this confidence come from?", my dad asked.

"Since you're really strong and mom's super fast. I figured I might have a combination of both", I felt my face getting red.

And so we left. We would have to go to the nearest town, which in our case was Mountington, and to get there we would have to trek all the way through the mountains as we lived in the center of the mountains region of BX-4 and Mountington was located near the hills region on a  plateau.

We went back to the house, filled a big cart with food, water and supplies and left. Mom walked in front as she could quickly react to danger, Dad walked in the middle with the cart behind him to make sure the supplies were safe and I walked in the back as we were least likely to be attacked from behind and I was the weakest of the three.

We hiked through the mountains for three days without anything happening, but on the fourth day, a shocking event occurred...

As we were hiking through the mountains, I noticed that cracks seemed to form behind the cart, but didn't really pay attention to it until the ground beneath me came crashing down all of a sudden. I tried to jump to safety, but I didn't make it and fell down a long way...
